Hurricane Season USA

Hey Phone Man, I used to manage a LAN/WAN Network and had lots of 3002 voice grade circuits at one time. Even had my own Halcyon test set for the data circuits. My screen name "fireberd" comes from the TTC "Fireberd" T1 test set. As I worked for SSA all my circuits were initially AT&T "long lines" circuits and later they were part of the FTS (Federal Telecommunications System) but were still AT&T.

At one time I worked in a Long Distance Switch and at first we had lots of analog circuits, then they came out with the T1 digital and it was a lot easier. Went outside in the Data department and most of the work was lining up those analog data circuits to the customers premise.

They got rain in Tampa and Clearwater and into Pasco and Hernando counties but we are bone dry in Inverness (Citrus County).

It does look like the track is headed for Louisiana. Fortunately they do not expect it to gain much wind strength. I did hear that they closed flood gates in New Orleans. If it does hit there it may dump a lot of rain.
We have had sprinkles and brief showers today in the Orlando area; but mostly we have had sunshine.

Not much around New Orleans. Small shower this AM but been sunny and hot all day. There is one small band of showers just to the East but most of it is sliding North. At 4pm the NHC stopped tracking it since it has mostly deteriorated.

I used to hate hurricanes when I lived in Florida. Especially back in 2004, when Hurricane Charley, Francis, and Ivan (among others) hit us. While it was certainly not fun missing electricity for a few months (my mom estimated 2 months or so total without power), it was interesting to look out a window that wasn't boarded up and seeing the rain and wind.

I hope anyone down there is doing alright. I know it gets very bad down there.

Hurricanes are something that someone that lives in Florida (and other areas along the gulf) must contend with. I used to live in Kansas City, Mo and that was in "Tornado Alley" and had to contend with them in the spring. Other areas are floods, earthquakes, etc. Seems no matter where you live there is something to contend with, at least with a Hurricane you have enough warning to "get out of Dodge" if needed. With a Tornado many times there isn't any warning or only a very short warning.

Well said.

@Prisoner. Yes, 2004 was a rough year in Florida. I went through four hurricanes that year.

Another One to Watch

Here is the next one to watch. In about five days it is projected to run into some shear which may weaken the system, but that is a long way out. Also it is moving so fast it may self destruct.

blizzards?? over rated, wind we do have

and no real cold, the coldest i have seen it personally is -40F,,-40C humidity almost 0%,my husban has been in -57F ,the hottest was 102F humidity 10% but the sun is kinda nastier at 6000+ feet altitude

Um, -40 F is mighty darn cold to me!!! My idea of cold is anything below 65F :D I do agree that with the low humidity one does not feel the heat or the cold nearly as much. I agree; at that altitude the sun will quickly take its toll on you. That altitude is worse than the Florida sun.

I used to live in Kansas City, MO and I've seen -60 wind chill temps in January and one of the reasons I retired to Florida. What is funny, many of the snowbirds don't want to be in Florida in the summer because of the heat and humidity. I was back in KC a couple of years ago and it never got below 102 degrees (F) during the day, the entire time I was there and it was high humidity (typical for middle of July to middle of August in KC). We don't get that hot here in Florida.

I used to work on the Ascension Island missle/Apollo tracking station. Ascension Island is tropical, not sub tropical like Florida, and high humidity and I didn't really mind it there.

That stupid thing won't give up.

An area of low pressure, the remnant of tropical depression five, is located over southeastern Alabama. This system is forecast to move southward toward the northern gulf coast today and could emerge over the gulf waters by Monday where conditions are expected to be conducive for some development. There is a low chance, 20 percent, of this system becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours.

It has cooled us off over here. It barely getting to 90 during the day.

Jim
