I searched and didn't find this topic. Hoping its not too unusual and someone has an easy solution.

Clicking on emailed urls don't open the browser/webpage. Instead, the "My documents" folder opens with windows explorer. Happens with any web link. Not my computer, so I don't have any other clues. She says it just started happening. No viruses detected.

Windows 7 x64 and Outlook 2003 (fully patched & updated).

Anyone have the quick, easy fix?

When it does this, navigate to Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe and double clock it. Close the email client. Try again.

Did it self correct? If not, do this http://www.sevenforums.com/89572-post1.html

I tried your first suggestion. URLs now open IE8, but go to homepage instead of the designated url. That's an improvement. Thanks.

I checked protocol association for HTTP, and it is set to IE8.

Next step?

In the registry, we need to add %1. Give me a minute and I will look it up.

Actually, at this point, use Default Programs in Control Panel. Choose the first item, Set Your Default Programs. It will take a moment to load.

Select Internet Explorer.

Select Set This Program as Default.

That should do it.

It's on tomorrows agenda at this point. Shutting down for the night.

Also, clicking on emailed link - the browser opens behind the email client. Hopefully your regedit fixes that too. I'll let you know results.

Edit: posts overlapped. I'll try the default thing tomorrow and let you know. Thanks for your help.

Done. Clicking on an emailed url still goes to homepage instead of designated link, but IE window is in front now. Making progress but not quite there. I also tried tools|advanced|restore defaults from inside IE8. No change.

Solved

Used the .reg files for .url, .htm and .html from this tutorial and everything now works. I bet doing just the .url would have fixed it, but that didn't occur to me until after I had merged all three. Thanks DeVandal and Forum.
