I added a password, now it's impossible to access my PC

A few months ago, I bought a PC from a company that didn't need it. I know the company and nothing was dodgy or unusual.

I changed the user account from the girl that used to use it to my name and didn't set a password.

Yesterday I set up a password as I needed to connect to my PC via Logmein.

Since then, I CANNOT access my PC. When I turn it on, it tells me the username / password are incorrect but it is trying to log in using the using the username that I deleted months ago.

I click on "change user" and my current username is not listed. I manually type in the username and password and again I'm told that these are incorrect. I have no way of logging into my PC.

BUT

I can log in via Logmein. I type the new username and the new password and I have access straight away.

Can anyone help me sort out this rather strange problem?

Hi and welcome to the Forum
Never used Logmein but it sounds like it has overuled your normal Windows Login. Was here anything about this when you installed the software? There is a Logmein Forum which might be a better source of inormation here:

Did you actually create anew account for yourself or just rename the one the girl used? If rename, then the girls account is actually still there. You need to login using Logmein then create a new account for yourself.

I don't remember for sure, it is possible that I renamed the account as opposed to deleting it and setting up a new one.

However, when I log in via Logmein, then whether I use the remote computer or the affected computer, the ONLY account that is there is the new account, the original account is nowhere to be seen. So are you suggesting I create a new account in the same name as the original account?

Just to clear up any confusion, the original / old account is Octavia and my new account is Funkgroover

When I restart the PC, the only user is Octavia and I don't know what the password is

But when I log in using Logmein from a remote computer, the only account is Funkgroover

When you buy something used it's generally a good practice to format and reinstall windows 7 to clear whatever errors, malware and personal data of the previous owner. This tutorial will help you do everything. Only thing you need is the sticker with the activation code (and a blank DVD or empty USB thumbdrive).
