Solved I am baffled, Outlook 2010 will not send emails

I just got a new nice laptop dell computer (my old laptop running windows 7 64 bit and Office 2007 is all working fine - sending emails fine on a POP3 account).

The problem is, Outlook 2010 will not send emails with the same POP3 settings. I have been all over this with my ISP, changed the outgoing port from 587 to 25, changed my outgoing mail server to smtp.ipower.com to myusername.ipower.com. Nothing seems to help. My ISP swears it is a defect with outlook and windows 7, but how could that be?

Error I get when trying to send an email:
Task '[email protected] - Sending' reported error (0x8004210B) : 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Who is your ISP?

And it's obviously a setting somewhere. "Where" is the question. Have you checked the ISP's website for instructions?

BTW I'm using 2010 on Windows 7 x64 without issue.

Can you recieve e-mail? If so, than it's something with a setting on outgoing.

Make sure you check the "My outgoing server requires authentication" box. If already checked un-check it.

Also are you using these procedures......



Don't use the automatic stuff though.

He doens't need Outlook Connector as he's not using hotmail, Gmail or anything like that.

He's simply trying to configure his domain e-mail account in Outlook. Something that is very possible as I have my photo website's email address configured in mine.

He just needs to figure out the correct settings for outgoing as incoming is working.

Avast is Good

You will probably find a setting in Avast that has to do with sending email. I don't use it so I am not going to be much help. But I do know it will work with your email. Some one else here might tip you off as to where to look.

There are a lot of Avast users on this forum. As I said it is good software. You can go to the Avast site and read up on your email problem or you can repost if no one offers a solution is this thread. I would repost in the System Security threads on Avast and Email as a title. Glad you got of the "woods".

If Avast is still a thorn in your side and you didn't pay for it try MSE AV. It is free and works great for me along with Windows Firewall. IMHO

I clicked off scan outgoing emails in Avast and it is working fine.

My next question for Avast aficianados is, how can i get this to work and still scan outgoing emails?

Glad you got it figured out.

You should be able to open Avast and allow Outlook to pass through it.

You can turn it back on till you find a remedy. Howling Wolfves had a good suggestion. If you are using the free version of Avast I would give Microsoft Security Essentials a try. The reason I say the free version you may not want to abandon something you paid for.

MSE is almost invisible. It has very few bells and whistles. The simplicity of the software is only exceeded by its ability. It works great is updated once or twice a day and you barely know its there. It's free you might give it a test drive.

hmmm, thanks for the suggestion. I try to stay away from Microsoft as much as possible if there are at least reasonable alternatives. I think i will try to tweak Avast. I don't like the way Bill Gates is running around the world telling everyone to get vaccinated . . . . oops, this is not a political thread is it? my bad.
