Hello to whoever reads this!

I have gotten some problems with my keyboard, when I want to make the following symbols:

¨¨
~~
^^
´´
``

It makes them double, when I press 1 time. Usually you have to press 2 times, to make it. I don't know what made this problem, and I really can't find any solutions. The main problem is actually, that if I want to make an "ä" I usually have to just press one time on ¨, and then on the A, but since this double thing did come, I haven't been able to make those ä. So, anyone know anything about this problem?
Thanks in advance!

Best Regards
Sebastian

It would help if we knew the keyboard in question.. as well as some of the hardware detail. Please see below:

Sorry, I didn't explain it correctly. The same applies to some other keyboard layouts, too, but in those posts the OP had issues with English layouts.

Are you using Danish keyboard layout?

OK. This is a bit complicated matter, however with really good logics behind it.

There's not much you can do. Apostrophe, tilde, accent, grave accent etc. behave like that also in my Finnish and Swedish keyboard layouts.

Trying to explain this better I need to quote myself on one of those posts I linked to earlier. See the highlighted part, it explains the issue. Notice that as that quote explains EN-US International layout, it uses " as an example; in your Danish as well as my Finnish and Swedish layouts " behaves normally, but the explanation given is valid in most of the layouts regarding tilde, apostrophe, grave accent and such:

Hi Marterzz, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Your keyboard is working exactly as it should work when keyboard layout EN-US International is selected. In this layout when pressing an apostrophe key on keyboard, system waits another key to be pressed to join selected apostrophe with that second character. This is to make writing letters like á, à, é and è possible.

When you press " (also an apostrophe), system waits another key to be pressed. If you in this case press another ", system types them following each other because this apostrophe can not be joined with another ", as for instance an ' could be joined with letter E to produce É.

As such you have no issue. You keyboard is working according to the selected keyboard layout EN-US International. You need to switch to simple EN-US keyboard to get apostrophes typed as soon as you have pressed an apostrophe key instead of waiting for the next character to be pressed.

Example: Typing my friend Ándre's name here, I needed EN-US International keyboard layout to get it correct. Using normal EN-US keyboard, pressing the same six keys (one ' and five letters) would produce 'Andre.

Read this post: http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/47912-issue-keyboard-input.html#post450833 for more information.
Also here something to read for you: http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware...massive-delay-en-uk-keyboard.html#post2240202

The thing is, your language as also both of my mother tongues Finnish and Swedish do not natively use accent, tilde, apostrophe and such signs. They are sometimes used in "borrowed" foreign words, often of French, Spanish or Slavic origin.

Hence, as there (in normal Danish) should not be the need to use for instance an accent (´) alone but it might be needed to produce foreign words and names, it functions as you have described: after pressing it it remains waiting the next character to combine for instance é in the word Café. Logically, if the system does not recognize the combination (apostrophe + the next character) as a grammatically correct combination, it simply types both characters following each other.

There is a workaround: If you simply need to type a single accent or such character, press its key followed by spacebar. This produces a single character instead of double, in this case accent.

As you said in the last part, to write one single, it should be able to just press 1 time, and then press space. But, the problem is, that when I press time on it, it makes the 2 of them instantly!

One more try: It's how the Danish keyboard layout works by default, not much you can do. The accent ´ as such does not belong to Danish language, the way it is included in your native layout is designed to allow you to use foreign characters as easily as possible.

You have two options:
  1. Switch to a keyboard layout that produces these special characters with a single key press. ENGLISH-US layout is one of those; the problem is that you would then need to switch back to Danish layout every time you would need Ø, ø, Æ, æ, Å and å
  2. Create your own layout with for instance The Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator

As far as I know and have been used, that's the way the Danish keyboard layout works.

To test it I also changed the layout to Danish in three machines, Windows 7 & Windows 8 virtual machines and this laptop I am using now running Windows 8.1.

It works exactly as I have described: First press of accent (´) inputs nothing on screen, it remains in buffer waiting the next key to be pressed. Accent + E gives É as it is supposed to do, accent + SPACE gives a single accent.

I do not understand your issue. Writing Danish you do not need single accent character. Writing in another language you can switch to respective layout.

Yea, my problem is when i press the accent (´) 1 time, it instantly writes both. I can't do accent + E, cus when I press accent it instantly just puths both (´´) not just waiting for another key to be pressed.

That is a hardware (keyboard) issue, not caused by software (keyboard layout). I suggest you test that keyboard on another PC.

Okay so I'm having the exact same problem as this guy. And 2 weeks ago, my keyboard was acting normally (single use of ^^``~~¨¨) as giving single output to buffers, even on danish keyboard layout. Now it's acting as being said in this thread. I've tested 3 keyboards that all act the same on my computer. I've also tested these keyboards on other computers with same keyboard layout as mine and they work as intended (as OP is saying). Danish keyboard have never, in my experience, made a double symbol when typing something like circumflex. All worked perfectly fine till about 2 weeks ago. I haven't tried formatting. But I've used CCleaner, Spybot Search&Destroy, Ad-Aware and AVG antivirus. Still nothing.

Edit: I tried following the guide in the other post. With no luck either.

Yet another edit: It does this with what ever language I chose, english, french, spanish, danish. All the layouts. Funny thing is though, when I look around the internet. Most danish people have this problem. Wich is weird, cause they are experiencing a sudden change. It's not when they buy the computer and set it up, it's usually after months of working normally (without the double writing), it suddenly starts doing it. Usually after a restart people are reporting.

I'm having this issue too. And it's not hardware. I know it's an old post and i'm not using windows 7 anymore but windows 10 and office is now office 365.
But, same issue and only in specific applications. Searching windows works fine, but in Office and mozilla products pressing ´ once creates two ´´ instead of buffering the first and awaiting second input.

Can't find solution. feel your pain bro.
