I can't stand this any more, please help!!

Dell has no Windows 7 drivers for your laptop, only Vista drivers. I'm recommending you use all Vista drivers - no Windows 7 drivers. But, it's just a recommendation. Good luck - hope you fix this. I'm out.

Something isn't cleaning up the resources properly. =( It sounds as similar to the problems you would see when using Java applications, but that shouldn't be the case. Under a clean install and just installing FF with video drivers does it do this? Also, x32 or x64? I don't know if you stated, I just skimmed through the pages.

It's x32. I installed W7 fresh and it ran good. I am not sure what I installed to start this sluggish reaction. I may just reinstall it tomorrow to see if it speeds up.

I always say the bet protection is reading and researching what you install. AV blows because once a system is ****ed up it's ****ed up for good. Just go through the programs one by one, figure out what you REALLY need. I would also suggest never have programs run at boot or logon. always have your programs set to manual start. why? So you know what's running when and not eating your resources. but try hijackthis, it'll tell you what's all running that you have added to windows.

Yeah, I will report back tomorrow some time. When I find some time to gut my computer and reinstall W7 fresh, I will let you know how it's running.

Once again, thank you everybody for helping.

The problem will probably occur again unless you try different drivers. Why wouldn't you try that first before reformatting??? Makes no sense!!

He said a fresh install was working fine, and even if it is the drivers a fresh install will give us a clean slate for a drawing board. That way we can go step by step on what programs he is using and as to where the conflict is. When you troubleshoot hardware don't you start from scratch? =P

He only just did a clean install tho. Reinstalling with the same drivers won't narrow things down any more. At least if he tries different drivers we can cross that off the list

edit: To the OP...good luck and I hope you work it out. I have no more to add and therefore will move on to another thread

Yeah but he has also installed applications that may or may not conflict. Back when I was figuring out how to tweak the Daniel K drivers I had to re-install a couple times. Because I was getting errors with drivers that were working, and then at times nothing worked!!! So finally I decided to start from scratch and check off what worked/didn't work/kind of worked. In the end I fixed the solution. Maybe I didn't have to format, but it helped keep things clean and organized. Which sometimes can make the difference.

Well, I left the computer on all night last night and when I opened it up tonight the computer is running much smoother. I have no idea what the deal is.

But, I will give it a couple days to see how it runs. If it starts to bog down again, I will reinstall Windows then eliminate the possibilities as I start to install drivers and programs.

Thanks to all, and I hope everybody has a great thanksgiving!

Well, I reformatted my hard drive, reinstalled Windows 7, and it was moving pretty damn fast. Then, I installed my video driver through the Windows update, then BAM, it slowed right now. I then removed that driver, and installed a different driver, an older one that was for Vista (not the most updated one though), and now it seems to be running a lot better.

Thanks guys!!!

Yes. Never use Windows Update drivers for video.

You're now using the right driver. Enjoy.

Might be a problem with the charger as well. Sometimes they can get messed up and under power the computer.... Not sure though, they used to have a problem with certain toshiba laptops that the MB screwed up the power source and instead of 19.5v it was 19v which kind of worked.... But that's another whole problem. Try another power cord if you have one (just make sure it fits and the v=v and the mA is greater than the mA you have).
