I changed permissions of a drive but now 'drive is not accessible'

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium so had to opt for option 1 the download which I did. Still no security tab for my D drive though - exactly the same as before.

Did you restart after you did Option 1 ?

On an explorer window click on Tools then Folder Options... On the folder options window click on the View tab.

Is there a check next to " use simple file sharing (Recommended) " should be towards the bottom.

Yes if we can't get the access back to Drive D .

Have you tried doing a System Restore to the day before you lost access to the D drive ?

Yes I did that after my first post in the thread but it didn't work cos it could not access a file

Thanks Dude. I've now tried that but System Restore did not complete successfully because it could not access a file. So I disabled antivirus as instructed and tried again - still didn't Restore. I then went back to an earlier restore point but this still didn't Restore. The unspecified error is (0x80070005) if that means anything...

I can't see that just 'Use Sharing Wizard' but it's selected.

type the command below

CACLS D: /e /p %USERNAME%:f

   Note

%USERNAME% is the account you want to give permission to

That is if you need to back things up from the D:\ drive and reinstall Windows .

I'm going to reinstall Windows - its about time the PC had a new start so this seems a good opportunity.

Ok so I've reinstalled windows but now the D drive isn't even visible when I open windows explorer. Argh!

Might be missing the driver for the chipset its plugged into . Does it show up in the BIOS ?

Hmm. Haven't checked that - wouldn't be on my radar to be honest! I've got an Asus Intel X58 Chipset Support DVD that came with the PC. Should I be running that?

Get the drivers from the Asus website not the disc . The disc has old drivers website has more updated than the disc .

What is the motherboard model ?

Open up command prompt by clicking on rb: type CMD inside Search programs and files . Press [ENTER]

In command prompt enter the following

systeminfo | find "BIOS Version:"

   Note

The | pipe symbol can be found using SHIFT + \ (just above the [ENTER] key)
