Hello EveryOne ,

I am a new member here and I would be very grateFul if you help me with my big problem that I caused mySelf   .
My problem is as follows :
I have a laptop HP 620 with Windows Professionnal 64 bits (genuine) running on it , as I have only one partition which is the C (that contains everything the System and my Personnel Documents) I decided to find out how can I partitionate my disk without Formating it , so that i would not lose my genuine version of Windows , I looked out on the Internet and I found out an application that my help (Partition Wizard) , I downloaded it and installed it on my computer. I was able to minimize the size of the Disk C into 150 GO , but the Unllocated Rest (130 GO) I could not use , everytime I try to create a partition on it an error message shows up to tell me it's not possible, once again I googled the matter and I found out that in order to create a new partition I have to transform my PRIMARY PARTITION into LOGICAL one  ...actually when I attempted to do so I had a warning telling me that by transforming the C it may become not bootable  ...I adventured and I transformed it into a logical partition (It is very stupid I know :o :o) and the next time I tried to run my LapTop there was the D Partition I was looking for but My primary Partition has gone away  ...in order to Restitute my Documents I installed a Seven Titan (not a genuine version ) on the D partition.
Now when I start my laptop I have two options :
1-Windows 7 ( the one I installed on the D Partition ) , from here I can access to the OLd C Partition and everything in it (my old programs , my drivers ...etc ) and;
2- A RAMDISK (which I don't know what is it !! ) which contains my Old C:/
I Am very sorry for this long message but i will be very very Gratetful if you help me restitute my Windows and all my programs .

DO NOTHING yet! - first we need to see how Windows sees your disk.
If your disk does have only one partition on it, there is no need whatever to create a Logical drive, unless the current installation is into other than a standard basic partition.
Please open Disk Managment (diskmgmt.msc) and take a screenshot - attach the screenshot to your reply.

The we can hopefully see what you've done.

Oh lordy!
I do wish that manufacturers would restrict themselves to ONE recovery partition!

I have my doubts that there's going to be ab easy way out of this - you appear to have reinstalled Windows into the in the new logical partition you created.

I'd better call in some help on this - it's not really my speciality.

Sarah,

Question 1: What version of Win 7 came with your laptop?

Question 2: Did you wisely create the recovery dvds?

On the bottom of your laptop or in the battery compartment ( you will need to remove the battery to check), you will see a sticker with a 25 character product key.

Do NOT put that key into a post.

Question 3: Do you have the key?

That is 3 questions. I'm looking forward to 3 answers.

Also have an Asus ha1002xp netbook with Win 7 Ultimate installed.
The problem is that you converted the System Reserved partition to Logical so it can no longer host the System boot files, when you should have only converted C so that you could shrink it to add as many adjacent Logical Partitions as you wish. This is the best way to add partitions when you want to keep the HP Recovery and Tools partitions bootable.

  1. To undo this mess, boot into free Partition Wizard bootable CD, rightclick E to Modify>Set to Primary, OK, Apply step.
  2. If it converts, next rightclick E again to Modify>Set to Active, OK.
  3. Then rightclick E again to remove the drive letter, click OK.
  4. Then click on the HD to highlight it, from Disk tab select Rebuild MBR, OK, Apply all steps.
  5. If Win7 will not boot then reboot into Win7 installer System Recovery Options or System Repair Disk to run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times until Win7 boots and System partition holds the System Active flags.
This leaves you with the OS partiiton being relocated away from the faster reading speeds on the left side of the HD. This is really strange incompetence at adding another partition. I would probably use this as an opportunity to consider abandoning the inferior HP Factory preinstall with its crippling bloatware and useless duplicate utilities to get the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Yes I've installed windows Titan (not genuine ) on the partition that I created , as you can see my Old system is on the E:/ disk now !

In that case after following the steps above, delete E and Resize C to the left to take up the space.

What is Titan? If it's a Linux distro you may need to uninstall GRUB first.

Hello Greg,
Thank you very much for the instructions l'll try to follow them one by one , yeah I am aware that I made a stupid mistake but I thought that it will be a simple thing to do , besides I was suffering of my One-Partition-Disk my laptop was becoming slower and slower !!

Sara have you thought about getting the vastly superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7?

HP's have the worst load of factory crapware and useless utilties in the industry. Getting a Clean Reinstall is better than getting a new HP.

We can help you get it perfect here.

Ok Greg am on it , I'll let you know . No Titan is a windows version .

As a matter of fact it's the first time I hear about clean-reinstall , so I can't tell you anything now ,

If it's bootleg then I would wipe the HD using Diskpart Clean Command from the installer's Command Line, before Clean Reinstalling.

Excuse me my friend but you are using some hard words that I can barely understand , give sometime so I can read about these new words :o

Sara,
Are you willing to make a backup of all data on the computer dear to your heart and then make a 100% clean install of Win 7 which will remove all HP traces from your laptop?

Greg has performed and helped others perform a 100% clean, sans HP software, on HP laptops numerous times.

I did not know that HP laptops were sold with Win 7 Professional preinstalled, which doesn't mean that they aren't. Generally, they come with Home Premium installed.

My suggestion would be to wipe the disk clean and then install Win 7 fresh. The last HP that I had in my hands where I did this was about 5 years ago and the HP came with Vista installed.
