I have no sound when my laptop is on battery power

It goes like this: my laptop is normally plugged in, high performance power settings, battery taken out. Every once in a while I put the battery in and use it with normal charge/discharge cycles, power saving settings. Now it somehow happened that when I put the battery in and windows booted up I had no sound whatsoever. Chrome or AIMP2 are not recognized in the volume mixer, and skype notified me that it was unable to access the sound card. When I put it to sleep and then woke it up again the sound came back. I then followed the same steps: shut down windows, booted up, no sound, put it to sleep, woke it up, sound available, a few times and always with the same "results".

Does anyone have any idea what's going on ? This never used to happen before.

Reinstall the sound driver and see if that makes any difference. Sleep and what does or does not work after waking can be driver issues.

How is it booting? From a "cold" boot or booting up from Hibernate. If its booting from Hibernate that can be the cause of the problem (shouldn't be but can be).

Cold booting. I do have hibernate enabled, but I rarely use it, and when I do it's on AC because that's how I keep it primarily.

Edit: I have reinstalled the realtek audio driver in the device manager this time and it appears that it fixed it. Thank you !

Update: it just lost sound again this morning and after putting it on sleep and waking it up, the sound came back? Seriously what is going on?!
