I have to make some tough decisions

Since I use Windows 7 and Microsoft support is now ending.
I can
1) continue to us Windows 7 and hope for the best,
2) get a new computer with Windows 10,
3) get a Chromebook and not have to worry about updates and security (however I don't know how to set that up or get it to connect to the Internet)
4) give up being Online

One you may have overlooked

5) Upgrade to Windows 10 for free, revert to 7 until you're ready to move on, when you're ready move back to windows 10 using the in place Licence that your initial upgrade created.

The upgrade to windows 10 was at last check not being charged for

As for getting online with Chromebook, don't worry the OS is basically Chrome Browser based so is always online when this is possible

Yeap… Same here, even got the daily definition update a little bit ago (1/15/20) for my MSE software and the sky is still there.

Where did you get that? I get MSE manual def updates here and it hasn't been updated since yesterday.

Just clicked on “Update definitions” under Update tab of MSE window, I got it at 1:52 pm it shows created today at 9:27am.

That tab thing stopped working for me a long time ago. That why I got them from the cite Web page.

Might have to reinstall MSE, there is download for that from MS ….. At least it was before yesterday.

I had a Samsung Chromebook about 6 years ago and it was really easy to set up. All you really need is a google account. Connecting the internet is no different than windows, in typing the password and connecting to it.

Please don't get ChromeOS it is JUNK it is totally web based so you can barely work offline line
If you do get ChromeOS Don't say I didn't warn you
