I need a new browser

I fill in reports online. Prior to Win7 and IE8 I was able to do everything inside IE7. But now Internet Explorer won't allow me to click on links. I have tried all the solutions I can find via Google including re-registering several dlls but nothing helps.

So I tried Chrome which did not work for one site at all and refused to save the radio button choices.

So I tried Firefox which worked perfectly for everything except saving my radio button choices.

Now I have to complete the report as much as possible in Firefox and go back to IE8 to make my radio button choices before saving and submitting my report.

Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions? Also tried Safari and had the same radio button problems. THANKS for reading.

dmccallum, welcome to the forums.

For the sites that aren't working properly in IE8, have you tried them using Compatibility View?

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html

I did not know about Compatibility View before. I just tried it and had the same problem with the links:

I gave Opera a try and it saved the radio button choices! What a surprise. But it was not able to work with one of the sites I need.

What would the difference be that IE8, Chrome and Firefox cannot handle the radio buttons and Opera can?

They all have different rendering engines
IE8 uses Trident
Chrome uses Webkit
Firefox uses Gecko
Opera uses Presto

These engines have different ways of processing web pages and Opera was the one which worked for you

If IE7 worked fine for you, you can run IE8 in IE7 mode.

To run a webpage in IE7 mode in IE8, click on Tools –> Developer Tools or use the F12 key to launch developer tools for an open tab.

In the Developer Tools, click on the Browser Mode and select Internet Explorer 7 from the list, the webpage should now reload and behave like it would do in IE7.

This sounds more like an issue with browser security settings (Set to insane max) or more likely AV software trying to make you "safe". We've seen some pretty insane behavior with browsers (Not just IE) with some AV software completely dissalowing certain functions here...

Is it a specific web site? or is it all over the place?

all over the place. IE8 will allow me to access our local MLS system which requires a username and password. I can then search for property but I can't click on the results of the search and look at any of the details of the property.

If there was an issue with the security settings (which I have tried strict and dangerously both) or an issue with the antivirus I would think I would see a problem logging in or searching. Or a problem with one of the other browsers beyond just the radio buttons.

Steve

Made sure Java was downloaded. Went into IE8 and reset all settings. I asked it to have IE8 handle the page as if it was IE7, to open the new links as new windows, new tabs and for IE8 to handle the page the way it wanted to.

Still same error message.

A social networking web browser? Used to be built on the Gecko engine by Mozilla and soon moving to the Chromium engine? No thanks.

I have been running FF for years and cannot ever remember having any such issues with it. I would also go with it being a setting of some sorts on your system

I would really love to be able to stay with Firefox but I don't know where to start looking for what settings to change. Suggestions?

I tried googling and no one else seems to have the same issue. Maybe there is another phrase I could use to replace "radio buttons"?

I agree it is either your security settings, or the typical cause for IE8 program, a wayword add-on, or conflicking add ons.

You might try resetting IE8 - Tools > Internet Properties > Advanced and click Reset. This will disable all your add-ons, including toolbars.

You can also run IE8 without add-ons by clicking Start, then in the seach box, start typing: Internet Explorer and options will appear, including Internet Explorer (no add-ons). Click that and see what happens.

I really thought this was going to work because I can reset IE8 and my links work. But when I restart my machine they don't work again until I reset.

So it made since that it was an add-on that was causing the problem. But, no, I tried IE8 without add-ons and my links won't work. Same error message.

Then it may be security settings and you may want to go to Tools > Internet Settings > Security, the Reset all zones to default levels.

Have you scanned for malware?

When did this problem start?
