I need admin permission to delete/move file (but I'm both admin/owner)

Hi,
I'm new to Windows 7.

I'm still trying to master the file permissions.. I need some help and I'd appreciate it if someone could help me out.

I have a folder with mp3s (created with my old Windows XP system). I've included this mp3s folder in the "my music" library and then I inspected the folder and took ownership of it together with everything it contains (following instructions I found on the Net).

Nevertheless, when I'm trying to delete or move a file I get the message that I need to provide administrator permission! But I thought I am both administrator and owner...

Also, when listen to the songs with WinAmp, it seems I cannon save any song data. I get: Cannot save metadata: Error opening file.

I suppose, it's an aspect of the very same problem.

What am I missing?

thanx.

I don't see any lock in the "general" tab. Neither in my user name folder. Btw, the mp3s folder is in the root of a different hard disk.

Here's how:

  • folder Properties > Security > Advanced > Owner > Edit
  • I checked the "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" box
  • and then I passed ownership to PcName\MyUserName

so that now in the text box "Curent Owner" I see my username..

I also checked a file which I meant to delete and indeed, the ownership is applied there, as well..

But I just noticed something that might be of interest..

There, in the list of users, I see two long strings of numbers that I suppose are somehow connected to my old XP system (attachment 1). When I try to delete one, it won't do it. Instead I get a message about this object inheriting permissions etc. (attachment 2)

Also, I don't see my name in this list of users (eventhough, I am the owner).

Any ideas?

I'm not sure I need the tweak as I already took ownership, like I said.

I just added my user name in the list of users for that mp3 file, and gave me full access. It seems I can delete it now. Apparently, ownership doesn't grand you access. And btw, when I added my name, one of the two strings disappeard.. the other one remains, still undeletable, though..

I'll check it some more and let you know of any progress.

thanx for ur time vistaking :)
