I Need To Reinstall My Windows Media Center

Hello,

I (long story) uninstalled Windows Media Player. I need help getting the proper download at MS. What to do? Also, I want to install another media player like VLC but the CNet website's free download won't work. I realize I am asking for two different things here if someone doesn't mind multitasking for me.

I have a Windows7 Home Premium 64 bit laptop.

Did you uninstall WMP or just turn it off? Is so, just turn it back on again.

If you download another media player, go to the software developers site or filehippo, not Cnet as they tend to bundle unwanted goodies into the installers. VLC is ok, it will play most everything you throw at it.

Don't forget to reactivate your AV and firewall.

Also go to your programs and see if WMP is there and if so, pin to start menu.

If we can get VLC to download, you'll probably be happy with that anyway.

The first thing I do is reconnect my security programs. WMP is not on my re/uninstall list or default programs for Microsoft.

A System Restore to just before should bring it back.

I had WMP until just before I started this discussion. I already tried system restore but WMP is completely gone. If I could just get to the proper Microsoft page to down load the program, that would be great.

I am also prepared to do a destructive recovery (shudder) if needed.

I will put the VLC on the back burner until I resolve this issue with getting WMP back.

Anne, your title says Window Media Center , not WMP.

Is Media Center what you are missing?

Look at post #5 - what do you see when you open that box?

Please post a pic of the box.

Hello PSCO,

I found my fix and I will share it with you.

I went to another forum and I was told what to do (below in black) and it worked.



1. Click on [SIZE=+0]Start[/SIZE] (bottom left) then [SIZE=+0]Control Panel[/SIZE].
2. Click on Programs and Features.
3. On left hand side of screen, click on "[SIZE=+0]Turn Windows features on or off[/SIZE]".
4. Find the entry called Media Features and expand it using the + symbol.
5. [SIZE=+0]Tick[/SIZE] the box for Windows [SIZE=+0]Media Player[/SIZE].
6. Click [SIZE=+0]OK[/SIZE].
7. Restart your PC.

I think I will post the VLC download query in a different thread. Thanks for all of your help!
