I only have one email verification what shall I do ?

When changing emails and passwords there are obviously various issues we come across from time to time.

I Currently I am trying to change my secret question in outlook.com but have a least two obstacles to sort out. I first clicked on 'I can't access my account' option that allows me to change account details. I then clicked on 'I know my password'. This includes an option to use my secret question which is to weak I feel. So I need to change my secret question and prevent people breaking into my email through this method. I clicked on settings and security to do this in my outlook.com account. The security options stop me from using anything else other than my Yahoo email to receive my microsoft verification code. I have no other verification options set up to allow me in to change my security settings. Since yahoo emails will not receive them for what ever reason I am stuck.

I have left no trace of anything in my email account that would be any use to someone who breaks into it (it just has the microsoft welcome email and no contacts or anything else about me since I made my details false).

If I have to abandon my account will it be safe ? Until recently I had not understood that a secret question was as important as a password and also needed at least two verification methods in case one won't work like now. I cannot see how anyone could use the information in my account as there is not anything there but I'd feel a lot more secure knowing I could delete the account or change my verification options to something new. Currently due to the above I cannot change the security options due to yahoo not getting code verification.
