I Really Don't Know How To Describe My Problem

Hey,
I bought a new computer a few months back with Windows 7 x64 loaded on. I took a hard drive from the old computer and added it to the new Hewlett-Packard HPE 500. This hard drive contained all my music files. I noticed right away that the file icons were faded (?) compared to the icons of the files that I started downloading with the new computer. When I put my 'pointer' over an original file, I'm being told that the file is empty. But it's not. I can double click and open the file, highlight the songs within and play them on the computer. Now my problem comes up when I try to sync a playlist partially made up of some of those older original files. Windows Media Player comes up with a list of synced songs that appear as 'Errors'. And all those errors are the songs from the old original files.
I guess my question is this - how do I get Windows 7 to recognize the original files from my hard drive?

Right click on a file and select Properties.

You may find that it came from another computer and is blocked for your safety,
and a button to UNBLOCK it.

I find *.chm HELP files from the Internet always have this and they cannot be accessed until I unblock.

Thanks for the quick replies. alan10 - you hit it the nail on the head. I looked at the properties and saw that the files I chose were 'read only' and 'hidden'. De-clicked and the files are now good. It'll take awhile to 'convert' all my files but it seems that the solution is at hand. I thank you again for the quick responses.

Ya, thanks Zyan for that, I hope, non sarcastic remark. Sometimes the easiest solution can be staring at you right in the face but you don't see it.

If you have a lot to do it would be nice to process the whole bunch in one go.

I cannot advise you how to do this via the Windows 7 GUI.
There are experts here who may know exactly how to do it.

Otherwise I suggest this forum which specialises in CMD.EXE scripts.
They are wizards at quickly producing a BAT script which composes a snippet of VB script that has far more power than CMD.EXE by itself.

Last week I wanted to process many versions at different dates of the same folder and print a list showing for a specific file the data and size (DIR can do that)
PLUS the file version and product version as held in File properties.
Within 5 hours I was given a small script that included a bit of VB script which gave me the information I needed. This was the topic
