I think I am loosing my BIOS Settings...

but I really don't know for sure or why or what to do.

A few days ago I started to have multiple BSODs, the culprit (or so I thought) was one of the Ram sticks, which btw, I have already RMA back to Corsair.

Now, from time to time, the BIOS looses the settings it has and it will either not pass the posting stage (before it starts to tell you the Ram timings and Bus frequency, etc) or once it passes (the Ram frequency shows 800mhz when it should be set at 1048mhz), it freezes or it ask you to press F1 to get into the Bios.

When this happens, I either have to get into the BIOS and manually force the settings back that I normally have or I have to shut down the pc, unplug the A/C cord, press the On button, plug the AC cord back and start the computer and it will recover the settings.

Yeah, I know, this is very confusing (imagine how I feel that I am not a PC guru). So, does anyone have an idea of what is happening? how to fix it or what I can start trying so I can fix the issue?

I am set to clean the PC, go back to Windows XP + Win 7 RTM but I am sure that will not fix the issue because it has nothing to do with OS, I think it has more to do with hardware issues... again, I am just assuming since I know nothing about it.

I know I abuse the help of this community but, without you guys, I don't know where else to turn to.

The mobo was purchased on February of this year, I seriously doubt that the battery is dead but I guess it won't hurt if I purchase a new one, although, I am reluctant to believe that is it.

Also, how do I check the date of manufacture for the mobo? is it somewhere in the mobo?

Believe it or not, you are reporting the symptoms of a dead battery.

Just because a mobo is new from the factory, you can bet that the parts can be a year old or better .... change the cmos..

Those can be readily available at Best Buy or Radio Shack, right? :shock:

It boggles the mind though, I had the 680i mobo for almost 2 yrs w/o a single battery glitch. Heck, it is still going strong because the new owner has not call me for a problem from it.

I am glad that, for once, my issues with my PCs is just as simple as a change of a mobo battery.

The battery has a number on it. I get almost all of my batteries at RadioShack. Except AA. CostCo - a thousand or so for $12.

You will need a CR 2032 (I think) watch battery. About the size of a nickel, and expensive as hell. Like $3 for one.

They have them at walgreens.
