I think I have a serious virus

On the Hosts file...

The hosts file is used by an Operating System to map hostnames to IP addresses.
Among what it can do for you, is block unwanted connections by adding addresses of known ad network and Spyware sites into your hosts file and mapping the domain names to 127.0.0.1. This action points back the undesirable sites to your own machine, blocking these sites from reaching you.

There are benefits to having the Hosts file. It can make your browsing speed better, as you no longer have to wait while you download ads from their websites, and, your browsing is more secure, as you are not reaching known dubious or malicious sites.


On the Event Log Errors...

This area is not one to which I have a handle, so, please post the results of the Addition.txt in the following forum, for expert assistance.
Just attach the Addition.txt to your post, and request assistance with the Event Log Errors:

On the malware/virus issues...

Reviewed both reports, and do not see a virus. You have already run MBAM with no detections.
If you wish, you can follow Sugarcake18's post, run the program suggested, and provide the results. If anything is found, we'll take it from there.

What other issues you are having could you Please start a New Thread that way you would receive the best Help ....

Right now I honestly don't know what's wrong with this now...but when we finished up with the clean install I noticed that I don't have anything "Microsoft" on here...but once I get this fixed I'm coming back to my post with you...unless you want me to start all over...and I wouldn't know where to post it...ugh

The scan finally finished that Sugarcakes suggested and it came up clean...no log anywhere that I could see for me to save...but it said that it was all clean.

I'm trying to download the Security Check now and it came up as a Trojan...and was put in quarantine...

My daughter has her disc from school other than that I don't have any kind of Microsoft on here...and when I do a Windows update there's a message like in the center telling me I have no Microsoft on my system.

No I don't have anything just my daughter got the newest one from her college and she is able to share it. So she loaded that one on but I had already MS Word and MS Office 2010? (not sure on the date of that one)...but before the clean install I had all of Microsoft on here and now I have nothing...thought it came with it...

Cottonball I've tried twice now to download the Security Check and it keeps coming up as a trojan and being put in quarantine. I just turned off my AV and it did it again...I'm lost here

There have been some problems with that download...

Please remove Security Check from the Desktop. Then, shut down Panda.

Download a new copy from here:
SecurityCheck Download

Double-click: SecurityCheck.exe
Follow the onscreen instructions inside the black box, etc. as previous instructions.

Keep Panda shut down until Security Check is done, and the turn it on again.

Hopefully, this time it will work for you.

On your concern about Microsoft Office.

You have Internet Explorer 11 installed.

Please open it up, and look at the top. See if you have entries like Outlook, Office, OneNote, OneDrive...

Click on Office.
Office Online allows you to save documents, spreadsheets, and presentations online, in OneDrive.
You can share them with others and work together at the same time.
Best of all, it is free!!!!!

Unless you wish to spend some money on Microsoft Office, this might be a good option for you.

It may be that you need the MSN home page and a @live.com email address, however, even if you do, it will save you a good amount. All of it is free.

Are you using the trial version, or did you purchase PIS2015?

On the Java first...when I first downloaded it it showed in my add ons as a deployment tool and it wasn't allowed to be activated and I couldn't figure out how to uninstall it without uninstalling the Java that I did need (I believe some of my games need Java) but when I would completely uninstall the Java completely and reinstall it that BAD Java always followed...Can't figure out how to get rid of it and just have the good one...


And as for Panda...Yes I'm in my trial period with that one there...I have 10 days to go to see if I want to buy it...I guess what I like about it is the fact that it seems to stop so much from getting into my system because it's quarantined things already and I have 5 threats its blocked...your thoughts on Panda?

On Java, did you use the uninstall link above?

As far as Panda goes, I use the free version, and like it. In fact, I have not bought an AV program since the year 2000!

It is up to you and what you feel comfortable with.
