Solved I want to delete my Windows.Old Folder on new install

Hey guys, just did a new install of W7, and out of my ignorance ended up with this Windows.Old Folder. I understand why it is there (Kinda) but did not realize at the time how to avoid such a thing happening.

1. I would like to Delete it (Safely) because it is taking up over 19GB of Space and is not needed.

2. I would also like to know how to avoid this the next time I do a Clean Install. I can only assume that it would require a Format Prior to the Install? But I hate to Format if not needed, and though this would be an option during Install, but I did not see any such option.

The tutorial below can help show you how to safely delete the Windows.old folder.

The Windows.old folder is created anytime you do an upgrade or in-place upgrade (repair) install. It will not be created if doing a clean install (format) though.

So a Format is needed Pre-Install, it can't be done with Install Media?

Also, I tried the first Two at the Link you provided and it did not work. I guess I'll need to go to the Third Step to do this. I wish I could just Delete the Darn thing and be done with it.

EDIT: Also, there was no Option in Disk Cleanup to check "Previous Windows installations" I wonder, does this have anything to do with Login Disabled on boot?

A true clean install would involve deleting all partitions on a disk until it's unallocated at boot, then select it to install Windows.

Clean Install Windows 7

You would need to click on the Clean up system files button in Disk Cleanup for the C drive to see the "Previous Windows installations" option if available.
