So i am sorta new, but not stupid:D
I read a few posts and managed to find the send to folder. I then put a shortcut to Pictures (the default library) in the send to folder but when I use it, it copies there. I want it to MOVE the files there. I know I can just select Move to but then I have to select the folder. :sleepy:tedious. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Ps. Don't mention the shift key as I hate all keyboards!

Send to .. always copies. That is all you get. Else you have to use what James suggested.

I am thinking more along the lines of changing what the one specific shortcut does when activated. Then placing this "special shortcut" in the send to folder. Still not possible? Maybe make it a shortcut to a .bat that does this??

This might interest you:

To Move a file using Send To:

1. Hold down your SHIFT key
2. Tap your CTRL Key once (don't let go of SHIFT)
3. Right click on your item and select a send to option (don' let go of SHIFT until you're done).

@debugged - that works for me without having to tap the CTRL key.

for me the secret is to have the shift key held down all the time.

a few weeks ago i had a discussion with another forum member, and he claimed it didn't work for him at all.

i'm still wondering why.

You're right, I also don't need to tap Ctrl to get it to move - I'm more used to sending shortcuts, and for that you have to hold Alt and tap Ctrl before right-click > Send to.

It's not a claim, it's a fact ;)

Which is why Brink created this - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/516-context-menu-add-copy-folder-move-folder.html

Edit - this worked.....

This doesn't.....

i (think i) know what you mean.

maybe it's something i tweaked long ago and forgotten about, but on my machine:

in windows explorer:

  1. hold down shift key - and don't let go until i say so!

  2. right-click on file or folder

  3. send to > (shift key still pressed down)

  4. select destination (shift key still pressed down)

  5. watch that sucker disappear from current folder, and reappear (move or shift) to desired location.

  6. now you can let go of shift!

Once I did the tap CTRL it worked! (for me)

Just to be clear, the Libraries are basically a 'shortcut' to the specified folder. I.E., My Pictures, so you will never have a file only in the Pictures Library, it will also be (by necessity) in the My Pictures folder.

James

The link James provided works as well, and it's what I used.

Just staying on track :)

I think I am going to post this in a progaming forum as I have come to realize that my unique desires expressed above are not a Windows feature. I will keep working on this myself but if anyone has more to say please add. I will post my solution WHEN I figure this out.
This can be done!!:D

I already had the copy to... and move to... options in the context menu. I found it very "busy" I wanted a few send to links to a few folders and libraries that MOVE. I have found this by google search "sendtotoys" It has a send to FOLDER which acts like your copy to/move to function only has a few more settings. I like open in user specified folder (no more browsing) and set default to MOVE, COPY or CREATE SHORTCUT. Thanks everyone I am happy with the results :geek:

EDIT- I have had time to use this and it suits my need perfectly. I have made different copies of their send to Folders menu then set each to open in the folder i designate. Very easy through the settings. Now I can right click > send to > pictures left click ok Two clicks. I like it:)

ANOTHER EDIT- I just put this in my Minecraft Saves folder Called it Copy to Backup. Set it up. And I can drag one or more world folders onto it. Vice Versa in backup folder. Copy to Saves.

FINAL EDIT - Settings stay with the program not with each copy of it I made so now all of them want to Copy to Saves. Oh well Back to the drawing board. Still a good tool to move to ONE obscure dir quickly.

McP2143 - Good luck with your search. What you really want is a MoveTo folder next to the SendTo folder that you can pop your shortcuts in and out from. I fear this would need a rewrite of shell32.dll and other system bits, so isn't likely to be done.

For myself, I almost always copy rather than move. For my regular destinations, I can put a shortcut in SendTo. What you could do instead that is also easy is use the navigation pane Favorites section to pop shortcuts into as needed and just drag files to the shortcuts and select Move. It really isn't much extra bother, and you don't need to use the keyboard at all.

It would just add one extra step to the process if you placed shortcuts to the destinations you want in the Sendto folder, then right click on the file, choose 'Send To' the desired location, then delete the file. Over simplification?

That said, I'd rather copy & delete than move the file, as if the move process corrupts the file, you can recopy.

James

Thanks again everyone!! I am going to stick to copy & delete because while it may take a bit extra time it is a safer route as James reminded me.
On a side note I have managed to mess up that send to toys Folder program. I wanted to read it in notepad and forgot to uncheck the "always use selected program" box. Now it won't work. I will post this in a new thread and put a link to it here later.

No need for that. Just right click on the file, choose 'Open with..." and change the association (which would be the executable program file for the Sendto toys), making sure that the 'Always use this program' option is checked.
