Hello I have a few questions I would like to ask

If you update your bios could this make changes to the volume of the speakers like decreasing it lower than previous bios version? Just a general question

During updating the bios my laptop restarted by itself a 3-5 times to make changes and I am a bit worried but could damage the laptop like hardware/software or components ?

The BIOS updates will not change the audio levels. If the audio levels have changed there is a different issue.

Restarting, depending on the particular PC and BIOS can be several times.

One general caution with updating the BIOS, especially with a Dell, If the BIOS update fails and corrupts the BIOS the ONLY option is to replace the motherboard. Dell does not have a BIOS recovery as some others do. For this reason only update the BIOS if the update fixes a problem you are having or will support new hardware or features that you need. Or the old adage "If it ain't broke don't fix it".

The BIOS should only be updated if the update specifically addresses a problem you are having. It should not be done just because a newer version is available. A failed BIOS update, which can happen even if you do everything right, is a very serious matter. There are precautions that need to be taken but they only reduce the risk, not eliminate it. In many cases the only recovery from a fail BIOS update is physical replacement of the BIOS chip by a qualified technician.

As I noted, the ONLY recourse in a Dell is to replace the motherboard if the BIOS is corrupted.

Hi James202,

As everyone said correctly BIOS update should not affect the audio levels on the system. And we also agree it should only be done to resolve a particular issue with the system and not to be updated because it is available.

If it is Dell system that you are using then it should have restarted only once to update the BIOS. You should check under BIOS if it has been updated successfully.

And to address the audio issue you can a different source like speakers or headphone before updating the audio driver.

Hope this helps.
