Solved *.Ico files no longer display their own icons in Windows 7 Explorer

Greetings everyone.

The *.ico files in windows 7 explorer no longer display their own unique icons.
Now they all display the blank paper icon.

The very same icons diplay properly as icons every place else. They also display the right
icon for different file types. It's only in explorer where they no longer display their own icons.
They displayed properly in windows explorer before, but now do not.



I have searched this forum and the internet for the solution but have yet to find it.

To any and all who can help me (and others) restore the *.ico display in windows 7 explorer, I thank you.

Hello setvarman, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you like, download and merge the .reg file for the .ico option in the tutorial below. It'll restore the default associations for .ico files, and will hopefully sort this for you.

Thank you Brink for your quick and timely response to my *.ico problem.

I followed your link and downloaded the .ico.reg file and merged it with
my registry as per the instructions.

Success, the *.ico files in explorer display their own actual icons now.
Yea, Yea, Yea, ....oh yeah, and did I say.... Yea.
