I have noticed an issue of icon cache though it is not making any errors or BSODs. But this happens due to an "issue" in my system.I just don't want to reinstall the Windows as I have numerous academical files which just can't be transferred to flash drives or another PC.Also it will take a long time to install Windows, apply updates, install drivers etc.
The problem: Whenever I delete any shortcuts in desktop, the icons of the original file of that deleted shortcut becomes a generic icon.If I try to change the icon,it says it contains no icons,so only generic. This problem applies to all files.
The methods I I have tried : Resetting Icon cache by deleting icon cache.db in user's files and restarting does help but this issue starts again when I delete any other or same shortcuts.Very funny right?!
So what may be the cause? This problem is not in my laptop which is a Compaq CQ42-451TU with Windows 7 Home Basic.
