Incorrect Icon for html & htm files - Doesn't show browser icon?

I realize this is pretty trivial, but it may be an indication something else is messed up.

I've removed ie 8 and instead use palemoon for default browser.
I've done this on numerous w7 systems with no problem like I'm having now.
Please see screenshot. I can't get .htm or .html files to show the palemoon browser icon.

I came across this tutorial for vista64 dealing with how to change icons:
File Extension Type Icon - Change | Vista Forums
That tutorial is from this thread:
Can't change file type icons

But I'm not getting that it addresses my specific problem. I'm not trying to use a different icon,
but the one associated with palemoon. I have no problem associating palemoon with htm/html files.
The problem is the icon doesn't show.

It seems to show the icon that is used when windows doesn't know what it's associated with?
I tried setting a 'DefaultIcon' key in hkcr under 'htmlfile' but it didn't fix it.

While I await any suggestions from those much smarter than myself,
I'll check out the systems I've done this on that didn't give me this weirdness. ;)

P.S. The attached screenshot shows .html files but it's the same for .htm files as well.

he has has the right program, just not the right icon.

I had the same problem with Firefox, and I used a program called FileTypesManager, which I found at 7Forums. I think it changes the registry properly.

Very sorry it's taken this long to get back up here. I thank everyone for their responses! :)

Unfortunately, after trying everything related to this issue, and all the links and tutorials,
that stubborn icon will not change.

I've verified the registry entries with other systems which are working correctly,
and they are identical.

Thanks for reminding me of Nir's app. But that didn't help either.
I'm going to try a custom or windows icon to see if it can change at all.

Very strange. I've never run across this before.

It's crazier than I thought!

I hadn't realized it until I went back and redid the defaults for browser.
ALL the .htm related files have that blank icon!
Please see attached

I even tried resetting the 'Set program access and computer defaults' only because I've never tried that.

The only thing I can think of other than complete re-install would be to re-enable IE,
and then change it back to PM again?

If anyone else has any suggestions I am all eyes and ears.

I don't think this is worth a complete re-install.
You can bend the rules a bit and just accept that white box as the icon, provided it's not used anywhere else.

What does this mean, from the Simplix installation page: "integrate the updates in the distribution (Install.wim)."
