I just upgraded iTunes from 10.01 to 10.1.056 tonight 11-25-2010 and my desktop icons have all been distorted.
When I r-click > Properties on them and try to restore them via Change Icon... I get a message saying the program was not found.
However if I double click the program it launches and works just fine.
I have made NO changes at all to the computer other than I just downloaded the latest iTunes and upgraded.
Here is a picture of what they look like:

Just for grins and giggles, do a system restore to a point in time before you did the upgrade ... ;)

Dang! I just noticed that all program icons now look like that Not just the desktop icons!
Every program icon in the entire computer now looks like this.

What's also weird is that when I drag a shortcut to a website from the browser's address bar onto the desktop it automatically looks like this with that blank icon in front the real icon.
I also just installed a software and the icon for it had that same look as well.
The only thing on my computer that does not have this image are folder icons.

Run a full and updated virus scan
Download and run a full updated malwarebytes scan.
Can be a coincidence or could be that the update has spyware
Lets find out.

AHA!!!! That's what it was.
Just a few days ago I had downloaded and installed the Remove Shortcuts from Method 1.
Then yesterday when I installed iTunes I was rebooting the computer for the first time in a while so I incorrectly blamed iTunes when in fact it was Method 1 in this link:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3606-shortcut-arrow-change-remove-restore.html
that for some reason left the icons the way they were.
Now I just downloaded it again and clicked the "Restore Arrow" and after a reboot there it was.
By the way in Method 2 i got an error message before "Log Off" that's why I tried No 1.

Thanks A LOT to all of you for your help

You're most weclome Aperture. I'm glad that we could help. :)

Since you have a default icon like this, you may not have done step 2 in METHOD ONE to unblock the file before moving it step 2D.

Make sure its installed, so go to uninstall a program and find itunes, if it is there, just select it and click repair, and once it is done loading, the icon will be back on your desktop.
