Solved IE 10 crash: Faulting module name: MSVCR100.dll

This only seems to happen when I visit SevenForums BBcode page with IE 10 launched in normal mode.

• FF 24 loads the page fine.
• IE 10 (no add-ons) loads the page, but of course all of the examples are image place holders.
  • "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -extoff
  • Interestingly, manage add-ons shows everything 'enabled' so the -extoff switch says "don't load add-ons" as opposed to "disable add-ons"

IE and FF have the same add-ons (difference is ActiveX) and all are up to date.
WU is up to date and I ran sfc /scannow without errors reported.

The other add-on types in IE are empty except for search providers (Google and Bing).

As this is an isolated issue, I'm not that concerend about finding a solution - more curious than anythng else.

I'll poke around c++ runtime libs and manually disabling add-ons. Will report any findings. Whoi knows it might help someone else trying to remember what BBcode to use.

As an aside, there are some new BBcodes - take a look (awww, don't worry - I'm sure it's only my IE 10 'configuration')

I had the exact same problem a while back, try disabling that Nitro add-on, that worked for me.

edit: I'll mark this solved, but.... I just realized that I used the pdf tags in another post and there wasn't an issue. Soooo, it's just on the BBcode page.

I'm wondering why there're duplicate Avast add-on listings ?
To truly rule out add-ons you would need to disable all add-ons and enable one at a time until you find the corrupt add-on that's causing the issue,
Then possibly testing with different document modes.
This site uses a page default of ie7,
Switching to ie10 Standards might cure the issue.

A side note,
The link presents a prompt this site want to use a windows media player add-on,
Allow and it now want to use Flash player.
Didn't crash but I didn't have flash player and didn't download it.

I don't use Avast but I do have the Nitro add-on and my crashes were the same dll and only when going to the forums BB Code page.

That prompt is probably because of the wmv code on the page at the bottom.

Yep, only disabling Nitro Reader "solves" it. Even tried disabling the MS run without permission.

Not sure I understand what you mean IE7/IE10 - as I said, this is a minor issue and seems to only be on the BBcode reference page.

Then possibly testing with different document modes.

Thanks, I'll contact Nitro and see if they have a new IE plugin. Nothing on the update web site.

Tried the forum --EF style and the BBcode page was painted, but then crashed, started to paint and crashed on IE's 2nd attempt to recover.

Click on Document mode and switch to the top Standards listing.
You'll then see that this sites page default is ie7 standards.

That's pretty cool! I always learn something new around here.

A little bit of tech gymnastics (disable Nitro, load page, switch to Standards, reload page) and the results are the same - IE crashes.

Side note: I hadn't noticed when Derek identified Nitro as the issue, but this time when I got to the BBcode page and scrolled down, there were two place holders. One for PDF (no kidding) and the other was WMV. All other examples were presented correctly.

You mentioned that the page prompted for a WMP add-on, so methinks the issue really isn't Nitro, but a conflict between WMP add-on and Nitro add-on. Recall that I use VideoLAN player, not WMP.

Walk me through what your doing on the bb page and I'll try to reproduce the process and see if it crashes on me.
I don't have near as many add-ons as you do so it might be a fresh view on the issue ?

Well I can't get it to crash finally reloaded Flash player again ?

Thanks thrash, but I can live with it. I spoke with Brink and he doesn't have the issue on IE11 - it's just me and Derek I guess. Derek pinpointed the cause and it only happens on the BBcode page on seven forums.

All I have to do to reproduce it is open the page, I don't get a chance to "do" anything.

Please don't spend more time on this, there are folks out there that need your help kimosabi.
