My wife has Win7 on her laptop. Last night IE 32 bit was working fine. Now when she clicks on the IE icon it does nothing. If i go into the start<all programs<IE 64 bit....then IE 64 bit works.

What has happened and what should I do to fix it.

I'm not trying to be rude really that is not my intention this is just a suggestion

STOP USING INTERNET EXPLORER it is the most vulnerable virus prone browser out there I know it's the world standard .... but it's junk .... sorry .... just get Firefox
and you will never have these problems again
(granted you have to set Firefox up the way you want )

Someone will help with the IE issue but that's my two cents, 2¢ <<<< check that out
here's how, hold alt and type 0162 (alt+0162)

Cheers

***the shortcut proly lost the path go to program files find IE and create a new shortcut on the desktop you can then drag that to the start menu or whereever******

Cheers Again

Hello Onejinx, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Here are some items to check to see if they may be able to help you. Try each one at a time to see if 32-bit IE will run afterwards.

  • Does IE open and run if you type iexplore.exe in the Start Menu search box and press enter?
  • Right click on the IE icon, then right click on Internet Explorer (in jump list) and click on Properties. Check to make sure that you have this path below to the right of Target under the Shortcut tab. If not, then change it to be, and click on OK.
    • "C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"
  • Double check in Default Programs to make sure that Internet Explorer is set as the default program with all of it's association set to it as well.
  • You may have a bad Internet Explorer add-on installed. Reset Internet Explorer to see if it is able to run afterwards.
Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thanks for the help so far

@Drewbie, I didn't take anything you said as rude. I have Firefox on there, but she has always used IE and is use to it.

@Brink... I tried everything you suggested but still can't get IE 32 bit to open.
#1...It didn't do anything and wouldn't open
#2 path was and is set to what you suggested
#3 IE is set as default program with all associations
#4 reset IE, and still nothing

Still when i click the icon, it does nothing.

Any other suggestions

Thanks

3 things to try:

#1)
1. Go to start
2. In search box, type cmd , right click cmd.exe, and then click "Run as administrator"
3. Then type:

netsh winsock reset

4. Press enter
5. Restart PC

Hopefully that will fix it

Or

#2) Again open cmd prompt, and run as administrator. In the command prompt window, type

sfc /scannow

and hit Enter. Again, reboot.

Or

#3) You can try to boot from the Windows 7 DVD and run the repair function
