IE 8: Weird go-back issue

Okay I didn't read
"Crazy Ferret LADY"

It was OEM's fault. LOL :D

Good idea Ageeb.

I forgot about that.
If that works it isn't the web site. It worked for other people as someone posted.

Remove add ons one at a time from regular IE if the No Add on version works right.

Ageeb your a genius! ;) :D

It's Always my fualt!!! LOL :D

Hope Ageeb's solution works for ya!

...I really dont want to reset it because I'm worried about what it will change....
After you press the "Reset..." button a window will pop-up saying what it will do and it won't delete any "personal settings" unless you check the box to do that. So you will have time to change your mind about resetting. Mainly it just removes add-ons and restores the default "Internet Options", which is fairly harmless. Once you get deviant art working you can re-enable addons and change some customizations back to your preference.

One more thing to check, Crazy Ferret Lady :), is there a "Back" button within the dA site while you are viewing the image?

No, dA doesnt have a back button that would send you to the previous page.

The strange thing is though, is that sometimes (though rarely) if I double load the page by clicking on the dA logo or someone's gallery button, when I click back it will go back or more often it will attempt to go back to the previous page, but instead it reloads the image and when I click the little down arrow, it shows "HTTP 400 [something]", and then several links to what I assume are ads.

As far as disabling my add ons, I'll give it a shot, but like 90% of my add-ons ARE disabled... I did that because I'm having issues with tabs too. I'll close a tab and a little box will pop up telling me that IE has stopped working and that its looking for a solution.

The last time it did that, I had too many add-ons going on and it was bogging down my browser, but disabling them hasnt really helped.

EDIT: Wanna know something sad? I opened IE 64-bit and its not doing it. >.< Same thing with no add ons, so now I have to go through and figure out which one it is... joy.

Okay, so I cant seem to find an add on that would be causing this. Running it in 64-bit and without add-ons "fixes" it, but I cant find anything. Only one I could think of was the Bing Bar, but disabling that changes nothing. And now when I hit "forward", instead of sending me to dA (or whatever dA page I was viewing before an image), it sends me straight to the image but it flashes on dA before it goes to the image.

EDIT: BTW roncerr... your suggestion fixed nothing. Reset IE, still doing it. Now I'm stuck with a screwed up browser and Norton. Fixed them, but still having the problem.

Oookay, I dont know why, but it suddenly stopped doing it. The only thing I can think of is it had something to do with Norton because I just used Norton's removal tool, then installed the newest version and all of a sudden dA is working normally.

....Watch, I say that and it'll start screwing up again, lol

Yeeeeeeeeah, but I paid a large chunk to have Norton till 2012. I know a lot of people dont like it, but I havent had any real major issues with it - I cant count this as a major issue, just an annoyance. *shrugs* Its kept my computer clean, so... I'm good with it.

Strange thing is, it still does it if I click the back button before the page finishes loading. It loads the image, then loads something else (ads I'm guessing) really quickly. If I hit back before the second load finishes, it kicks me back to the page before dA.

Confused? lol, me too. But if its stopped doing it if I wait an extra 15 seconds, then I'm good. If things change, I'll post again.... but right now.. thanks y'all for your help!

Sounds you got it licked with the new update for Norton, well done! Resume activities ;)

Weird IE 8 go back thing again

So... I posted about this the yesterday, http://www.sevenforums.com/browsers-mail/132877-ie-8-weird-go-back-issue.html, and thought I had fixed it. But apparently not because its doing it again.

The only thing that had changed it that the HP Support Assistant updated this morning. It removed the old version and installed the new one on its own. I went through and disabled the add-ons that had be re-enabled with the IE reset. Didnt change anything.

So... now what? Any new suggestions?

So if you run in no-addon mode, it still does it?

As I mentioned in that thread (post #2) it works properly for me in IE8-32 bit. All you can do to fix IE8 is reset it, although I've heard some people suggest unchecking IE8 from "Programs and Features"/"Windows Features" and then, after rebooting, check it off again to reinstall it.

So far I've verified it works on my systems running 32-bit versions of Windows Vista and Windows 7, fully updated. My security program is MSE. (I've tried it with the popup blocker on and off and also with my hosts file blocking on and off.) Besides talking to the Deviantart folks, you could also call the help desk for your PC and ask them to do the back-button test on www.deviantart.com . If it works for them but not for you, they may be able to suggest something. However, they will most likey want you to restore your system to it's factory installed state.

Ageeb- No, no. In add-ons disabled and 64-bit IE, it doesnt do it. But earlier I had gone through the add-ons and found that all the add-ons I had previously disabled were once again enabled cause I had reset IE to factory default settings.

I dont know whats going on any more... its once again stopped doing it. Figures once I post, both here and on my dA help ticket, that its doing it again it stops...
