Solved IE : Any way to prevent tabs from ALL loading ??

I wanted to finally switch back from Firefox to IE after many years, simply because IE supposedly is much better now than before, and have been having continuus speed issues with Firefox...

I Always used FF for the ability to have a Multi-tabbed session reload on start-up fairly efficiently.
But because of the speed issues SINCE the latest 700,000 updates from FF, I decided to finally go back to IE...pls don't propose Chrome. Been there done that and utterly hate it. Shouldn't even be called a browser.

So I re-installed IE, and setup the add-ons and options to my needs...one thing possitive: it is FASTER than Firefox, straight out of the box.

BUT...

Only to notice quickly that in IE, there seems to STILL be no way to prevent tabs from loading on startup ???

That effectively makes the whole "tabbed-browsing" experience useless. If you reload a Multi-tabbed session, ALL tabs load in the background, and if any streams or videos/songs are in those tabs, they all start to play and one has to shut them off tab by tab...

In FF there is a simple checkbox to prevent such needless behavior, and loads tabs only when you click them.

Even searching the web, NOBODY EVER asked this question in any forum regarding Internet Explorer. For every other browser, that option has been asked for, made available, and discussed for a VERY long time now,...yet nobody ever discussed it regarding Internet Explorer... which completely BAFFLED me ! All other browsers allready found this option to be neccesary long ago, and implemented it long ago...yet at MS's corner, there is not a single mention of it. Nowhere.

IS there really nobody that would want that option in IE ? I don't get it.

Hi Danny welcome to SevenForums,
Hyperlinks differ I'd say if your opening a link that directs you to a specific page where music or a video is supposed to auto play it would auto play,
The only way I see around that is to adjust the url to the main site and not a specific player,
You can post one or two of the links if you wish to so we might test but there isn't any setting to control the action,
Also confirm your version ie11 or 10 ?
You can try to adjust this top section to Never check for newer versions of stored pages but I doubt that will have a positive effect and would create a new issue of refreshing the website page ?

Hi, thanks for responding..

But I think you misunderstood.

Let's paint the picture :

In firefox, say you have such a window opened :

7RwRej6.png

Multiple tabs, and you have the browser set to "restore the previous session"...

Next time I fire up Firefox, the same window will open, with all those same tabs.

BUT in firefox, there is an option that PREVENTS all those tabs from being loaded in the background.
Only when I click a certain tab, will its content get loaded.

Nqlh1d7.png

-> translated: "Only load tabs after selecting them"

Advantage: youtube pages, tabs with links to songs etc... won't start playing all at once when I OPEN firefox.

In Internet Explorer, you can also have session restore, so the same multi-tabbed window will re-open.
BUT in IE there is no option to prevent those tabs to ALL load at once when opening the browser.

Disadvantage: all tabs containing youtube videos, songs etc...will all start loading and playing simultaneously every time I re-open IE. So one would have to open each tab that is playing, and manually stop the playback in each seperate tab...

I constantly use multitabs with session restore, with regularly having tabs containing videos and songs, and not being able to prevent those tabs from all loading automatically at start-up makes "session restore" utterly useless all together.

It is impossible that no-one else has come to that same conclusion yet...it is an option available on Chrome, Firefox, Opera, ...all except MS off course.

I understood the original question perfectly,
All I'm saying is there is no option to control such an action,
You can leave your user feedback here and possibly even ask on the connect site ?
https://connect.microsoft.com/IE
If I restore a previous session I expect ie to do exactly that on every tab thankfully it does,
But ultimately I use Favorites tab groups not last session and go to specific site pages usually my profile pages or the main sites page,
Cheers.

...as was my suspicion.

I do know about the tab-group favorites option, to add an entire window of tabs as a favorite.
I guess that is MS' alternative for simply adding the option, but it is a very inefficient one.

I do a lot of independant production work in sound- and visual FX, and for the first pre-production stages I continuusly need to use and combine lots of links, and thus constantly need to pick up where I left off, with many tabs containing sound and video-links in one window that continuusly change and shift...continuusly creating favs every time before I close the browser would cause too much inefficiency, impairment of work-flow, and mis-haps, because I can already see how things would regularly go wrong that way, and things getting lost. I have to multi-task many other things without having to worry about that aswel. I would need an additional procedure to keep all those favs transparent...it's just a hassle I can do without.

Way to elaborate compared to a simple checkbox that always prevents tabs from loading where one has to do NOTHING additionally except closing the browser when done, and opening it when re-starting your work...
Automatically everything is there in front of you, but nothing starts loading or playing unless you click it when you need it.

Anyway, I abandoned my initial studies as an It-technician long ago, but it is still pretty easy to spot the obvious...
For a company like MS, once flagged and tagged, it would take them under a week to implement that simple checkbox...the fact it is an option widely available across browser-platforms, and they are the only one to still NOT implement it and even stay silent about, reveals stubberness rather than inability...in the end all for the good of one guy's "vision", ****ing it up time after time, yet getting richer and richer.

Lol, I remember long ago, back in the day when studying, in the IT-labs we had mapped layouts of various MS software complexity vs. other alternatives, for comparison, and MS' software was always about 50x more complex as the other alternatives, although they could all accomplish the same things...I could always understand the path-ways in the alternatives, always very efficient and straight-foward, but MS' solutions were always very confusing...I guess they still haven't learned much...regarding programming and sub-routine efficiency, that back then already said a lot about the ethics held high by the guy in charge. Stubberness that continues to this day really...wanting too much without considering the things that simplify the complexity, meaning making certain sacrifices that alter the estethics of the end-result. That's Gates.

Anyway, not wanting to start ranting too much :o....it simply is as it is, but the guy, as smart as he is, is a stubbern i**ot :p Hell of a vision but way too closed minded that keeps ruining the end-result really...
Their mobile platform...same thing.

For what it's worth, thanks for confirming my initial thoughts...:sarc:

I'll see if I can get some more information over there...

Good luck DannyP, it does seem like a useful option now that you've explained it some more. You can try the Pale Moon browser, it's FF-based and I don't know if it has the same speed issues or not.

Reviews look very promising. I will def. try it out for a while...it could be just what I need...
Does it support all add-ons like in ordinary FF ? I used Waterfox for a while, but didn't support some needed add-ons, so I switched back to FF...

Lol, I left FF lots of times, but every time having to go back to it rather reluctantly...
I find it very baffling how browsers keep deteriorating as they "improve"...quite the contradiction. :)

EDIT: I see it has both x86 and x64 builds, so that means I can have all add-ons in the x86 build, which was an issue in Waterfox which is solely an x64 build.

I'll try it out and report back whether it is a solution. thanks !

I don't know about using add-in or themes an such. I've only had Pale Moon a few days, don't use it much. It is well recommended by several members here whom I trust though.

:D

Anyway, I just installed this thing and set-up all addons and favs etc...
I must say, what a difference !
Pages load blazingly fast, straight out of the box, and I do mean blazing (wtf???)
Like "snap!", instead of "1-2-3(-4-5...)" in FF...every single site I throw at it.
Never seen such speed in FF, not even after fresh install and necessary "tweaking"...
In my line of work it makes all the difference.

I will mark this thread as solved, and I do thank you.

Okay well I'm not going to quote you ;)
But ironically there's another question here fwiw ?
Might be you :D
Why isn't there any way to prevent tabs from ALL loading at once - Microsoft Community
Cheers.

Lol, off course that is me...thought I'd bug them with this for a few days although I won't be expecting any usefull solutions from that side ;) ...will take a few days for them to reply in the first place :p

Over here ? already discussed, contemplated and solved. Thanks !
I think I'll hang around a bit...
