IE11 fails install, error 0x80070643

Hmmm - it looks to me as if you may be missing a large amount of data from your registry hive :(

However, let's just see what we can find elsewhere first.
Please run the following commands, and post the results...

Code:
 DIR C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-ie-sysprep_31bf3856ad364e35_10.2.9200.16686_none_9966734d2a735816.manifest

 .

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

These two files come from KB 2870699 - please also check using Belarc Advisor and see whether that reports the update as being installed or not www.belarc.com

I don't know where all these files went? I have frequent backups of my drive so I guess I can go back and reinstall the registry but don't really know how far back it happened. If that doesn't work a full system repair?

There's only actually two files involved there - I was just using different ways to get at information on them if they existed :)
Having said that, obviously neither exist.

What does Belarc have to say about the update involved?
I'm off to bed now - so if Belarc says that update isn't installed, what happens if you attempt to install it?

Thought it must be getting late over there! ;)

Belarc says it's missing (KB2870699 Cumulative Security Update for IE). My Windows Update install log says it was installed in Sept. 2013 when it was released. I am unable to reinstall it no matter what I do. After some research it appears to have been replaced twice. From what I found the first replacement Cumulative Security Update for IE was KB2879017. That also does not exist on my computer and I was unable to install that manually. The newest version of the CSU for IE is KB2888505 and that does exist on my computer.

I tried to roll back my registry and system to the day before I attempted IE11 install thinking that it corrupted the registry when it was removing IE10 to do the install but that did not help. I considered trying to remove all the updates back to Sept. 2013 and reinstall all of them but I was unable to remove most of them. I would just get an error message saying it could not be removed.

So, at this point I am thinking about a repair install of Win 7 Pro SP1 unless you have any other ideas to try out first.

Thanks again for all the time you have spent on this.

Thanks for all the input. Just an update...

Noel I will save you any more work/time. :D Thank you again!

Yesterday I decided to bite the bullet and repair/install Win 7. It took a while but actually went surprisingly well. Not the nightmares I remember in the past with Win 98/XP. :sarc:

Almost all of my programs and drivers were preseved. Had to reload only a few things.
After loading the 140+ windows updates  life is good! IE11 loaded without a hitch!

I suspect, as you have, that something happened when trying to install IE11 over IE10 during the removal of the old registry entries.
