Solved IE11 won't install on Windows 7 64bit Machine, Error 9C59

Hi,

Seen some very helpful posts on here whilst trying to resolve my issue mentioned above, so thought I'd join up and see if anybody could advise on my issue.

Trying to install IE11 on a Windows 7 64bit machine with SP1 installed.

Machine previously had IE8, went to IE11 direct download from the website, which resulted in an error saying it had failed to install.
Tried performing the update from Windows Update, on system restart the machine had IE10 installed with the error "9C59", having researched this error code it seems it's not very informative.

Microsofts suggestion for this code was to uninstall IE9 and try again.
I uninstalled IE10, tried again, and then uninstalled IE9, tried again, same result each time.

I then ensured all Pre-Requisite updates had been installed by manually checking each one from microsofts website, then repeated the installation attempt, no luck.

Ran the SUR tool, which seems to indicate no issues.
Then SFC, which has highlighted a few errors.

I've attached the CheckSUR.log, CheckSUR.persist.log and the SFC details from the CBS.log.

Hopefully somebody has some pointers into how this issue can be resolved.

I'm no expert so wont try to read logs but Googling this as "ie11 install error 9c59" I would say you need to ensure two things. That you've done an Elevated Disk Cleanup (Tutorial Step 6 HERE) and ensure that your system is otherwise fully up to date. IE11 wont install until SP1 is installed and you haven't mentioned that. Is your system totally up to date otherwise?

SP1 installs easier if you disable any antivirus during the process.

Thanks for your contribution, I'll try the Disk Cleanup now, won't hurt to give it a try.

The machine itself has SP1 installed, there are no important updates waiting to be installed onto the machine.

I forgot to mention that in the Disk Cleanup tick off everything, and in the More Options tab > System Restore & Shadow Copies section, to free up disk space you may as well delete all Restore points except the last one (that's it's default purpose).
This error often occurs when there isn't enough room for the update to place temporary files on the drive.

I'm not sure which specific action resolved the issue, but it's installed!

I ran the SUR tool again which seemed to bring up 4 new important updates, installed those along with a full disk clean up (including System Restore & Shadow Copies), restarted the machine.
Once re-booted installed IE11 update on it's own and it worked.

I don't fully understand how it's fixed but it is!

Glad it worked There are quite a few security fixes for IE that Windows Update will no doubt offer in the coming little while, so don't be alarmed.

For information, the current errors in the SFC scan are 'expected' according to MS - and they'll get around to fixing the bug that causes them 'in a future update'.
The update causing them is KB3022345 - so you can either ignore the errors or uninstall the update and hide it. When MS get around to fixing the bug, either the new KB take its place, of KB3022345 will re-appear in your list of offered updates.
