IE8 vs Firefox

I have been running Firefox earlier, but now in Windows 7 RC 1, I think IE8 works better! It starts faster than Firefox (both the x86), the security seems to be the same, so I am not sure Firefox is the best browser to use in Windows 7.
Is there some settings that needs to be set in Firefox to get it to run optional?

I really like IE8 in Windows 7, and for some reason it seems that IE8 is much better here than it was in XP (same hardware).

What are you guys using, FF or IE8? (Or something different like Opera or Chrome)

IE8 for me, rarely Chrome.

I'm the exact opposite.


I rarely have a need to use a browser other than Chrome, and IE8 works well enough for me to not bother installing Firefox.

I can't recommend IE8. While it's better than the abominations known as IE6 and 7, it is still several years behind Firefox, Chrome and Safari when it comes to features, ease of use and web technologies support. Overall Chrome is the fastest, but even though it recently received a rudimentary ad blocker extension, it's still a long way from the nice configurable ones in FF.

The pipelining one is the only FF tweak that I recommend. The others are things that reduce RAM use and let's face it - most people have plenty of that these days. RAM is still the fastest memory in your computer so using it is faster and unused RAM is useless RAM.

Setting things like the initialpaint delay or menu popup speed to zero isn't very useful either. While it may give the impression of being faster, it makes navigating slightly harder. Initialpaint delay controls how long the browser waits before rendering a page and since most of you probably aren't on 100 Mbps connections it takes a moment for Firefox to retrieve a page. If the delay is set to zero it'll start rendering before it has enough data, resulting in the page jumping around as pictures are loaded etc.

What do you mean with "web technologies support"? I also got the idea, that IE8 was as secure as FF, and that IE8 now follows the standard rules for programming much better than IE7?

I find FF to be a browser you have had to learn from when it first came out, as it is much to complicated to start learning today. I have tried, but booksmarks and FF - I don't get it. It seems like a nightmare to get it the way I like it.

As Iaxu is writing, memory is not a problem in modern PCs, not in mine anyway, I'm on a 25/25 Mbit, so it is not the speed of recieving the data that is the problem here, but more the intuitive respons from the browser.
As burgurne wrote, it _seems_ like IE8 in Windows 7 is more responcive that IE8 in XP, so I'm sticking to IE8. Maybe some day I will try Chrome.

Well, some of that could be superfetch, but I generally agree that FF is getting bloated.
