IE9 lower left url on mouseover, how to stop

Thought I'd waited long enough, so finally installed IE9. Nice except for that nagging annoyance of a pop-up in the lower left corner (or the status bar) every time I hover over any links. That's a permanent "feature"? Can't wait until someone comes up with the utility that turns that off.

why would you not want to see the real url when hovering over a link? and why is enabling the status bar not an acceptable solution?

As I believe in user choice I think the option should be configurable however.

I didnt even realise IE9 did this till reading this thread, so they kept the feature even without a status bar interesting, although I keep my status bar and use classic shell to restore some IE8 behaviour to it.

One caution that I thought of was that the scammers and virus/trojan writers would love to be able to turn off your URL poper-upper so that they could get people to click on their nefarious links that were really not the true url.

Give me the choice. Please! For folks doing commercial work on the Internet (we're architects using manufacturers' websites to review products and download specs), the annoyance level of this "banter" in the lower left corner as the cursor flies over lists of PDF cutsheets and installation data is horrible. I've tried it w/ and w/o the status bar enabled. Both are bad. I can't/won't sit here and now, with IE9 in place, carefully review link addresses as they pop up in the lower left before clicking -- I'd never meet my project deadlines. I understand MS wants to save me from myself, but let me decide if this is the best way to do that.

There are people that might agree with you BUT: Many many people need to be saved from themselves and the pop up is a minor distraction and does allow you to see what the url really is.

Again, the scammers and trojan injectors would love for your option to be there as they would then turn it off. they would put innocent url's on their web page that really went to a .ru site instead of updates.microsoft.com

I think you are tilting at windmills and if you really want to stop the pop ups. put a piece of duct tape on the bottom left of your screen.

If you dont use the popup how is it stopping you from clicking without looking at it?

Richnrockville, I do not want a liberal in the White House to save me from myself. Why would I want my browser to do same? I am perfectly capable of hiring a limo to take me home from the bar and like to chose my own health care plan, thank you. I have layers of firewalls, internet filters and virus blockers that I employ to keep the bad guys at bay. I want to surf in peace and isolation without nag screen after nag screen after nag screen nagging me all the time.

Windows 7 nag screens can be turned off. Surely IE9s nag screens can be turned off too.

What are "resource files" and where are the located?

Could not find a fix in the registry. Willing to look elsewhere.

You won't find a way to turn it off.
Every browser does it, and will continue to do it.

Every browser does not do it, Opera does not if you turn of the Status bar there are no popups , there is an extension you can use if you do want them.

What are "resource files" and where are the located?

Those DLL files Internet Explorer uses, or inside the executable file it self. A mass of binary data, unless you know what you are looking for and how to change it. Good luck with that.

onclick the values are restored and the link is working well.
Calling the function with <body onload="nourl()> all the urls on the page do not popup anymore.

I eagerly put this in. It works pretty good in IE8, but my IE9 still shows all URLs (from my anchor tag hrefs) in the IE9 status bar. Does it on yours? What's going on?
