Solved IE9 & Microsoft Flight Simulator, NVIDIA GUI's slow to load

The PC I am having issues with is primarily used for flight simulation and I use it to download program addons and drivers from trusted sites. I do not use the PC to browse the web.

I was using IE9 to update a graphics driver and noticed IE9 was very slow to load, pressing the X to exit I received a message saying the program was not responding. Installation of the NVIDIA graphics driver was also slow as the user interface did not respond as it normally does, once again I received a message saying the program was not responding.

I booted to safe mode with networking and wouldn't you know it the computer ran fine. IE9 loaded the homepage in normal time and the NVIDIA GUI ran in normal fashion.

I typed msconfig and selected the Services tab and placed a checkmark in "Hide all Microsoft services", everything was stopped.

I rebooted back to Windows 7 and typed "services.msc" and tried stopping a few programs, the programs that were runnning were:

Adobe Acrobat Update Service
AtherosSvc by Atheros Communications
AVTHHelper by Avatron Software
CrossLoop Service
MBAMService by MalwareBytes Corp
NVIDIA Update Service Daemon
Steam Client Service by Valve Corp
TightVNC Server by GlavSoft LLC.

IE9 was still slow to load, however Google Chrome is not affected. I am not sure if it is a non windows program, I tried disabling Microsoft Security Essentials but that had no effect on the issue.

I ran a full check using MSE and MalwareBytes and the results were negative. I uninstalled Adobe PDF Viewer, MalwareBytes, CrossLoop and a couple of other programs that I no longer use.

I am really stumped on this one and would appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Robert

Try running IE9 without Add-ons, see if it loads normally. If yes then one or more Add-ons are the problem.

The easiest way to try this is Windows key + R to get a Run box then type iexplore -extoff and press Enter. See how long it takes to load. If it makes a difference then use Tools / Manage Add-ons in IE9 to disable them a few at a time until you find the culprit.

Hello Maxam and welcome Mate hiding the M$ services does disable them it just shows what isn't a M$ service. As a matter of course in Start up I only tick the OS and security, and make sure in advanced boot options all cores are used.

You have used the tutorial I take it?
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/11728-optimize-windows-7-a.html?filter[2]=Performance Maintenance < brilliant stuff.

If you want a good scanner try SUPERAntiSpyware | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware! if you think it is a malware but try the tutorial first.

Hi Rich,

I tried what you suggested and IE9 still takes a long time to load. I am concerned more about what is causing the applications to hang.

I have tried the Event Viewer\Custom Events\Administrative Events. There is one issue that is sticking out as being the culprit.

First I received an error: Dhcp-Client Computer was not assigned an address from the network (by DHCP Server) for the Network Card... Computer will try to obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.

Then a warning: DNS Client Events .net timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.

There are other warnings like: Registry hive (file) C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\NTUSER.DAT was corrupted and it has been recovered. Some data might have been lost.

It seems like it wasn't long after a Windows Update that I began experiencing issues.

**EDIT**

Hi SouthSaxonMan, I was posting when you did, I will have a look and see what I can find... thanks.

The other alternative I suppose is to uninstall IE9 and then reinstall worth a try.

- Download and save the IE9 before you uninstall save it to downloads ( I type Downloads in the search window then right click the blue Download window -send to desktop I then have instant access to whatever I have downloaded.) then run it from there.

Like I said, I am not really too worried about IE9 it's just that some GUI's tend to run slower than they used to and something is interfering with them. Here is a log from Superantispyware:

Well as a general rule I get rid of the trackers.

Some system specs would be handy too maxam and I suppose your download speed would be handy to now - you can use FlorianGilles.com - NetSpeedMonitor for this set it on your taskbar it is sueful for just about anything.

Have you tried Device Manager and clicked on all the devices and checked the drivers for all? See pic

You hit the nail on the head, it was in fact an issue with IE9.

I Got my PC back from the shop and all they did was to uninstall Internet Explorer 9 from Programs and Features, Installed Updates page and the computer reverted back to IE8. Apparently IE8 is the industry standard for testing and benchmarking etc. All my programs and interfaces are loading normally once again. Something must have become corrupt in IE9 and when these programs tried to "call home" the communication was delayed somewhat.

I am a happy camper once again, thanks for your feedback and help.

Thats good Robert at least you are back on board - remember my post re uninstalling ? never mind next time mate you'll be the wiser eh?
Cos I don't like it when they charge for doing something that you can do for yourself.

Give it a while and try again if you want and don't forget CC mate to keep the thing cleaned out the tutorial, a regular defrag if you only have HDD's - best check when that is done because of some strange reason it seems to be defaulted to 3am in Windows I always set it for 8am because I never leave my machines on unless it is for a memtest or some other long winded test up.
Oh and don't forget the msconfig stuff:)

Any probs mate theres always someone around.

John
