With the advent of Internet Explorer 9 Release Candidate, Microsoft also made public the latest set of results in the WebKit SunSpider JavaScript Benchmark.

Earlier this week, before IE9 RC downloads were live, I had a chat with Rob Mauceri, Group Program Manager of IE, and Ryan Gavin, Senior Director of IE, and they confirmed to me that once again, Internet Explorer 9 is the fastest browser according to the SunSpider Benchmark.

IE9 RC wrapped up the collection of JS tests in just 209 ms, with Chrome 9 the runner up (238 ms) and Opera 11 coming in third with 240 ms.

The 4th position is occupied by Chrome 10.0 Dev (248 ms), followed by Firefox 4.0 Beta 11 (254 ms), Safari 5.0.3 (310 ms), Firefox 3.6.13 (753 ms) and IE8 (3746 ms).

It’s incredible how much IE9 has evolved, performance-wise, compared to Internet Explorer 8.

I downloaded IE9 RC. When it goes RTM, will I need to do anythiong to be up to date with IE9?

FF will always be my browser of choice. I don't care how many Milliseconds slower it is.

No such thing is perfect browser ...some work for you at certain websites ...some not so good ..
For me ...i have to settle for IE 8 & Chromes ...
In my line of work ...FF is out of the question ..
Chrome is much faster but does not work well at some websites ..
So pick one that works best for you .....
Remember what is best for you doesn't mean is best for others .

I don't think the IE 9 Sunspider results can be trusted.
Did Internet Explorer 9 Cheat In The SunSpider Benchmark?

Funny how its fastest in the Sunspider benchmark but trails in last in all the others.

I don't get this trend for excessive speed. Is it that most people want a browser with absolutely no security that will run anything and everything it encounters instantly, no questions asked, just so they can say that they have the fastest (but most insecure browser ever)?

Security is a major requirement for my daily usage and FF 3.6 provides that for me, it also loads pages fast too. Well, probably not as fast as some would like, but I don't need a browser on the bleeding edge of benchmarks. When IE9 is out *officially* I'll install that, but only because I like its UI better than the UI ft. in IE8.

I still don't get what the big deal is in milliseconds of time in a browser benchmark. If anyone chooses a browser because of a few millisecond difference, then they shouldn't even own a pc. And yes, it's different for everyone. Different system, different results.

I notice a difference between IE9 and Opera 11.01, with Opera still being faster. I also notice FF and IE8 have always been noticeably slower. But if ur talking milliseconds, that's just ridiculous. Opera will always be my 1st browser, and with the way things look, on MY system, IE9 will be my backup/2nd. That is, unless FF4 is near as quick as the beta's were.

If ya like it, use it,it's that simple, but don't base it all on unnoticeable speeds.
