Solved image editor software recommendations??

Hi, a couple years ago in high school I used an image editing program called Adobe Fireworks (version 8 I believe), and I really loved this program. When my high school days ended, I tried downloading the program through torrents. I found a torrent that seemed to be legit, but the key to unlock the full software had scareware on it. Been frightened of torrents ever since.

Anyway, so for the past few years I've been without an image editing program, and I've found myself increasingly having a need for one. I am aware of GIMP for Windows and have used it before, but I am so used to Fireworks, it's been hard to switch gears.. perhaps I just need to get more accustomed to its style? Photoshop is obviously out of the picture, the last time I checked that program was a 600$ pricetag, ridiculous.

I don't believe Adobe Fireworks is around anymore, and if it still were, it would definitely cost. I'm wondering.. what do you guys use to edit your images with? I need some recommendations.

Adobe Fireworks is still around. But if I'm understanding the Adobe website, it's a part of, and available through, Adobe Creative Cloud. And it looks like that costs $49.99 a month.

Thanks for all your recommendations guys. Yesterday I actually did some looking around Youtube and found a video explaining how to put Gimp into Single Window Mode. Gimp's dock layout was probably my biggest issue, but not anymore. I've decided I'm going to watch a ton of video tutorials and understand Gimp that way
