How does that work - have you tried it . What is the process? Does it adjust a macrium image during the restore?

That is of course different from "make os bootable on different hardware" or "physical to physical adjust" as Paragon call it.

The latter is independent of the image restore process. It can be pointed an OS that has been restored from any other imaging program, or an OS on an HD that has been moved form another machine.

I've never had cause to use it but it's supposed to allow one to restore an image to hardware other that what was used to make the image, such as restore an image to a system that had the MOBO replaced after the image was made. This is how Macrium explains it on their website:

Restore to new hardware

Includes Macrium ReDeploy™ to move Windows to a new or virtual PC.
Including Windows Server!

Restore to dissimilar hardware requires the PRO or sever versions (expensive).

I stated that I have the Pro version. It didn't cost all that much more than the Standard version. Keep in mind the paid licenses are for life. Even when Macrium comes out with a new version of Reflect, I can continue to use the current version for as long as I continue to use Win 7 (which will probably be until sometime in 2019); I just won't receive anymore updates. Since it is working just fine for me now and is meeting all of my imaging and cloning needs, I would be happy with that.

I initially bought the paid version of MR because I needed differential and incremental backups at the time. I no longer need those features but the Pro version does have some other features I do use now, such as recovery from Windows boot menu (very handy), free support, etc. (I'm not sure anymore which features I use are not in the free version). An additional feature the Pro version has is restore to dissimilar hardware which may come in handy someday should my MOBO, etc. die.

Did you ever need support? Recovery from boot menu is ridiculous... you can restore from recovery dvd.

Yes. There was a problem with File and Folder backup where there were very dissimilar file sizes adjacent to each other (My VMs). I had a fix for that in a couple of days.

That can be useful if you have no DVD drive and cannot produce a workable recovery stick.

AOMEI has something similar. You start the restore in Windows and it reboots into AOMEI. no disk needed.

You can add the recovery at boot option very easily.

Open easybcd, select winpe tab, browse to C:\Boot\macrium\WAIKFiles\iso\sources\boot.wim

(or just copy and paste the above path - everyone will have the same)



Click ADD ENTRY.



Done.

You can boot any ( bootable ) .wim off the drive like that. A bootable wim can only be pe and it must be flagged bootable. The pe any of these things make will already be bootable, so just add it in to the menu.

Or a recovery USB flash drive (I have both).

It's way more convenient to use recovery from boot than to use a recovery disk or stick, especially with my notebook although I also do it all the time with my desktop. If the only reason for getting a paid version was the recovery from boot menu, I would agree, it would be ridiculous but I already had purchased the Pro version to get incremental and differential backups. Even though I no longer use incremental and differential backups, it would be ridiculous to not use it since I already have it.

When I first started using the Pro version. I did use the online support occasionally. I also emailed them directly when I was trying to decide which of the paid versions I wanted to get.

Yes and it starts your selected restore immediately. Nice feature.

They will be adding more to the free Aomei - they mentioned file and folder backup.

In the case of MR, it will still work since, if you select it during boot, it will boot before the OS and works independently of the OS. It's only when the drive itself is dead that it won't work. Then you fall back to a disk or stick. I suspect it's the same for AOMEI.
