Solved Image your system with free Macrium

Did succesfuly burn,and created an image of specified partitions.Yet,everytime i open Macrium,i am prompted to create a rescue CD,and end up with a missing batch.bat file.Searching for updates,doesnt find any.What am i doing wrong?Macrium version 5.1 registered.

Once you make your Rescue Disk, the prompt will no longer be there.

As Keith said, dismiss the prompt. But if nothing helps, do them the favor and burn a Linux rescue disc - maybe to a virtual disc. Then you don't waste a disc. Burning a Linux rescue disc is fast. Should only take a couple of minutes.

Did as advised,didnt have to spend even a disk.I could always check "never ask again",but wanted to follow the whole procedure.Resuming,if i want to restore my system,i put in the burnt CD,boot from it,search image location and all goes by itself,just like the Windows inbuilt restoration does?

You have to navigate to the device/partition where the images are and then select the image you want to restore. Then you may have to answer a few questions like whether you want to restore the MBR, but all of that is easy.

You should do the restore process at least up to the point of locating the image to make sure that the CD will boot and that you can find the image you made.

Well gentlemen,i mean senior gentlemen,this 50Mb application,could be the smartest thing i have ever installed.Besides the inbuilt restore-repair feature,this little thing can prove itself a real life-saver.Made the attempt to restore,found the verified image and aborted,dont have any reason to doubt its efficiency,kado's video is hard evidence.

I have used Macrium for over a year. It was storing my system and data partitions fine. But when I suddenly needed to RESTORE the system back, it explained me instead why it was not possible. Well, in that type of software, exactly this operation is crucial. All else is secondary. If that does not work, the whole piece of software is useless. That is why the question I am asking is: Have you ever RESTORED? The sofware that gets approval in that particular point from good many people can possibly be of any use.

It has been several weeks already so I am not sure now. It concerned a w7 32 partition. I expected Macrium Reflect to restart into wPE or Linux so as to replace the partition but nothing like that happend. I have made several different attempts and each was met with a different message. I understood some of them, not all. As I was in pressure I had no time to run more experiments and finally succeeded in finding a workaround. I mean, around that Macrium. So my point is RESTORE is what counts at the end of the day. I just want to make sure that 'restoring' images means actually restoring them back, not running a progress bar or something.

As with anything, you have to inform yourself beforehand and not try to wing it. There was an excellent tutorial from my friend Keith that explained how to do a recovery. It is linked in the above tutorial. Did you study that ??

No, I used only Macrium resources to prepare myself generally. But when that moment finally came, I was probably not ready to face the demands (as it is often with calamities) and certainly had no time to do extra study. As it is well after midnight here and I am the only one still awake, I should not disturb with the video right now. I am sure to get back to it in the morning. After all, I have not deleted the images yet, so there is still a slight hope I turn back to MR. As it is now, I am rather inclined toward Paragon Backup... but still collecting testimonies of the I-have-restored-and-succeeded type. The problem is not there were not the right buttons (I am going to see them in the video probably), but that the right buttons do not always work. And the restore operation is absolutly essential. It does not have to be quick, but given the condition you meet it, it must be simple and safe. I suspect that replacing a system by its image might be actually something like a politician's promise: nice to listen to, but next to impossible to fulfill, and anybody wishing to really tamper with the system partition should better maintain two bootable systems. Am I not right, in the end?

I would say you are not right. You can watch the recovery video. Turn the speakers off since there is no words - only text and music.

Regarding Paragon, go ahead. If you think Macrium is difficult, you'll have a ball with Paragon.

I have had good experiences with Macrium. The free version is one of the best free software products out there.
But there again I also use Windows inbuilt imaging (duck - waiting for incoming).

OK, I've seen it. (And I've noticed more videos in the side strip giving the impression the restore should work.) I do not know why it didn't with me. I still would need to find a way how to test it without risking my system (or anybody else's). I'd hate to face again the condition there is a (half)dead system and a heap of useless images. Everybody can take the bait - once!

A test is easy. Shrink 2GB from the C partition or any other partition and use it to define a new partition (but only if you do not have 4 primary partitions already). Copy some data into that partition. Make an image of that partition. Then wipe it full or partial. Restore the image and see whether you got the copied data back.

It is a good exercise that will familiarize you with Macrium and it is fast because 2GB is an itty bitty partition.

If you already have 4 primary partitions on the disk (check in Disk Management), then post back with a picture of Disk Management and we will tell you what to do.

OK, seems reasonable. I have two partitions, C and D (and a tiny one with no letter) so it should work. What do you mean by 'shrink' something from C? Just creating a new one and later fill it with any data would not be enough? Anyway, I'll do it tomorrow (which it is already, but too young to work with seriously).
