imap stopped working when I changed network

Hi,
I recently did a fresh install of Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit at work. I installed it behind a nat:ed machine (internal IP), so nothing special about that one. I chose home network as the network type as I would be using the computer at home from now on.

However to my surprise, when I got home the email had stopped working. Everything else is working just fine. The problem is with thunderbird (or other email programs) and imap. If I try to check my new emails at home I just receive a message that connection to imap.xxx.xx.xx has timed out. This was working just fine when the computer was at work.
Home network is similar, broadband connection, connected to Buffalo WHR-G54S (NAT, DHCP). I've checked about everything and I have no clue what to do next. It doesn't matter if I turn the windows firewall completely off, I still get the same results (time out).
HOWEVER, I discovered a new thing. If I'm connected via VPN to my work network, I can check my email from home. Weird stuff, where the hell has windows stored something about my work connection here at home?

Hi and welcome

I suspect that the problem stems from using IPv6 in homegroup. When you connect via vpn, or at work IPv4 is used. you can check yourself by running ipconfig /all and check the active device. see if it lists IPv6 and if it has an address.

You can remedy the situation by using work group for home networking

I have some information about IPv6, yes. The following info is available:

DHCPv6 IAID . . . . . . . . . . .
DHCPv6 Client DUID. . . . . . . .

However, the field "IPv6 Address. . . . . . . . . . ." isn't listed on my current active device.

I also have a "Tunnel adapter isatap." and Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 9 which I don't know what they are at the moment. One of them is probably the vpn-connection, but the other one I have no clue. Could it be the "dead" connection which I used at work?
Anyways, the isatap doesn't list that much information, but the Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 9 has an IPv6 Address.

What do you mean by using work group for home networking? Just the location you can choose? I've tried both Home Network and Work Network profiles, none of them work.

Also, would it work if I just disabled IPv6 on my system?
