Immediate restart w/ dump files but no BSOD

Okay..... so I'm sitting here about to get a infrared temp gun and the computer just restarted. Nothing was happening, the computer was at idle, nothing was running (that I know of). The computer was probably on for 30-45 minutes.

OK, let's get to some diagnostics. For now, just perform Part Two and Part Three as they're the least invasive and will save your CPU and GPU from any excess stress if either your RAM or HDD fail.

Run those diagnostics and report back.

STOP 0x124 Troubleshooting

Read carefully before proceeding.

   Warning
:warn: If you're overclocking your system, revert back to stock clocks now. :warn:

   Note
Test the system once the overclock is removed before continuing with the steps outlined below.

ONE

 CPU TEST

:ar: Run Prime95 to stress test your CPU. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/100352-hardware-stress-test-prime95.html

   Warning
Your CPU temperatures will rise quickly while under this stress test. Keep a keen eye on them.

TWO

 RAM TEST

:ar: Run MemTest86+ to analyse your RAM. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html

   Note
picture.php

MemTest86+ needs to be run for at least 8 passes for conclusive results. Set it running before you go to bed and leave it overnight. We're looking for zero errors here. Even a single error will indicate RAM failure.

THREE

 HDD TEST

:ar: Run SeaTools to check the integrity of your HDD. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/313457-seatools-dos-windows-how-use.html

:ar: Run chkdsk http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html

FOUR

 GPU TEST

:ar: Run Furmark to stress test your GPU. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/100356-video-card-stress-test-furmark.html

   Note
Run Furmark for around 30 minutes.

   Warning
Your GPU temperatures will rise quickly while Furmark is running. Keep a keen eye on them.

My wife is going up to the store to get a temperature gun, I'll monitor it that way while I run the stress tests. What will will be using? Never done this before.

See post #22 :)

Ensure you read the whole post before commencing. You won't need to monitor temperatures on the two tests I've recommended you perform first.

It will indeed, make sure it runs for the full eight passes. Anything less is inconclusive.

Hey I'm looking at the memtest screenshot, and it says "testing 1024k-2048M 2047M of 8174M". What does that mean? Did it test all 8GB of RAM or only a part of it?

Also, just ran SeaTools, all disks passed.

That's the sector of RAM it was testing at that point in the pass, all of your RAM has been tested up to that point in previous passes. The results look fine.

Next thing I'd like you to do is remove power from the PC, remove the side panel and check every single connection is made properly and that all cards are seated securely.

I'll have to do both tests tomorrow. If I'm reading the CPU and GPU temperatures from my IR thermometer, what are the MAX temps I should have before I should abort the test (in case of possible overheating?)

70°C tops for your CPU, it'll be safe at that temperature for a while, and you should be looking at around 80°C for your GPU.

Last night I found all the Gigabyte programs and deleted all of them, just to be sure.

Today I just finished the GPU stress test, everything went well, the GPU plateaued at 73oC. Here are the results:

Right now I'm testing the CPU.

Also, I think CoreTemp is accurate for my PC, just not at idle temps (which is what I've read everywhere).

I'm running Prime95 right now, all 6 cores are 100% and running at a steady 37C. I've been running it for 35 minutes now. The CoreTemp temperature correlates with what my temperature gun is reading (I'm measuring as close as I can get up under the heatsink).

I just found this strange.

Yeah, I saw that. I'm running the latest FurMark, version 1.15.1. Maybe it couldn't figure out the driver? It seemed to fix itself though as the bottom tests used the right one.

EDIT: It seems my motherboard (GA-78LMT-USB3) has an onboard graphics chip, although it is a Radeon HD 3000 GPU not an NVidia chip. Maybe that was it???

My i5-4670k is running at 35°C with only a couple of light applications open under a massive aftermarket air cooler. The ambient temperature around the area of the heatsink won't be indicative of the temperature of the CPU itself. It'll be a lot hotter than 37°C.

If Prime95 is running OK though it's not really an issue.
