Incremental backup from an internal HD to an external HD?

Hi - using W7 here. I have a folder on one of my internal HDs that I am frequently changing and adding to for a project I am working on. What I am used to doing, is just dragging the folder to an ext HD for bu.

Is there a way to do Incremental backups here? So if I bu on Mon to the ext HD, and make some additions on Tues and Wed, come Wed eve I don't want to have to figure out what is new. Can an incremental backup be utilized here?

Your easiest solution is probably a sync program like Allway sync

There's many programs that will do what you need:

Allway Sync
Synctoy
Second Copy
Karen's Replicator
Folderclone
GFI Backup Home Edition
Syncback
Synchromagic

They all work pretty much the same way, but would have different interfaces and differ slightly in features.

The first backup will take a long time, but all later backups will likely take no more than a minute since only the new and modified files are backed after the first run.

You can usually set them to retain older versions of files or delete them, as you choose.

SO it seems like I ned an app, and that this is not doable from Windows....

It is doable in Windows. Windows File and Folder backup does just that. If you do you will need to set up the folders you wan't backed up and remove the image from the backup because you won't want to do that so often. As it stands backup will decide itself when to do a full backup and when to do an incremental, but there are some tutorials here on how to get around that.
