Independent Headset/Speakers - Realtek

I bought a new computer today, and am having a major issue trying to setup my sound so that it functions the same as on my old system. I see a lot of people here who want to be able to play sound through their speakers AND headset, and just mute them individually.

I want to be able to redirect sound, on a per-application basis, to my headset (Logitech ClearChat PC Headset/Mic). For example, in Ventrilo.

The problem I'm having, and I don't know if it's a Win7 problem or a Realtek problem, is that no matter which jack I plug the dang "headphone" connector in to, it's not being recognized as a Headset - just as another speaker.

So on my previous computer, I could set my speakers as my "default device", and have iTunes and browser sounds play through there - and I'd setup Ventrilo so that any Ventrilo sounds were played through my headset. I could do the same with some games, also.

I just can't get it to work on this PC. My headset isn't being detected at *ALL*. It doesn't show up in the "Playback" devices tab, and doesn't show up as a device in the Realtek HD Audio Manager. So sound will play, the jack works, the headset works, Win7 and/or Realtek just aren't recognizing it as a device separate from my speakers.

I've checked-off "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices" in my Playback devices tab/listing

I've tried checking/unchecking the Realtek HD Audio Manager's "Disable front panel jack detection"

I've uninstalled & re-installed the Realtek HD Audio Manager *multiple* times, and I've tried using the generic Win7-installed drivers, none of it worked

I went so far as to try the Regedit info posted in the sticky at the top; I tried the Headphone connector with every possible jack, modifying the binary data on each Pin to Headphones, and no dice (but admittedly, I'm a newb when it comes to Regedit, so I may have been doing it wrong, and that may not have been the right kind of solution anyway).

My previous system used the VIA HD Audio Deck application (I believe that was the name, my old computer bit the dust today; but it was definitely the VIA audio program in any case), and it had a simple interface that allowed me to just click a button & use my speakers and headset independently - so they didn't automatically just play the same sounds.

Am I just a total newb? Is there something glaringly obvious I'm missing here? Or am I going to be forced to go on the hunt for a USB headset?

How can I get my headset to show up, so that I can use it independently from my speakers?

(I filled out my computer specs in my profile, but I'll be happy to post it all here if it's needed. This post just seemed too long already to clutter it with that too!)

No idea why your headset isn't working, but if you end up being forced to get something USB, you should know that you can just buy a USB sound card and keep your current headset. If your headphones are nice ones then it's worth it, otherwise you might as well invest in the usb headphones. Keep in mind though that USB Headsets use their own sound cards so you dont want a cheap set.

In terms of something comparable to the Realtek sound card, I think the steel series or turtle beach would be close. If you want something nicer, go for the Sound Blaster, if you want studio sound just get a new sound card.

I was just about to reply to your thread, I just saw it before realizing you replied here :)
That is *exactly* how mine looks also, and I'm trying to do the exact same thing as you.

I'll let you know if I find any kind of solution. I've been looking.
All I know is that if my defintion of multi-streaming and understanding of this is true than it must be possible.
"The ALC888 series are high-performance 7.1+2 Channel High Definition Audio Codecs providing ten DAC channels that simultaneously support 7.1 sound playback, plus 2 channels of independent stereo sound output (multiple streaming) through the front panel stereo outputs"

I did a bit of research and found that older version of realtek which I haven't found had a mixer which had an option to enable multiple-streaming but I haven't found anything recent about it in windows 7 or newer versions of realtek audio manager.

Still trying to solve it, I haven't given up yet and I made an interesting step forward in my thread. I'll post again if I find a solution.

USB device not playing back

Sometimes you need to disable all other playback devices and THEN plug in a USB headset.

Detect headset and speakers win7

Hi, I have had a similar issue to yours, where i could not detect a headset and the speakers.
The way I found to solve this issue is to uninstall the realtek drivers and use windows audio drivers.

This way you get a distinction between speakers and headset :)

And If you want to easily swap between them, you can use a program called sound switch.

Hope this helps man, I spent all day trying to figure this out.... getting the latest drivers... plunging and unplugging my headset and speakers, trying different combinations, then I decided to just uninstall the drivers and see what I get... and BAM!!!! DONE!!!!! as simple as that my friend :D
