install or upgrade to 7100 from 7068

Hi All
currently I am using the 7068 version. I would like to try the 7100 version since the 7068 have problem with the mp3 file and audio with too much background. Anyways, my question is simple, should I do the upgrade to 7100 or fresh installation? Thanks

Hello Dpham, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I have always found it best to do a clean install with beta versions of a OS to avoid having any issues from a previous build in the new build.

Yes, upgrade installations usually work just fine, but I would recommend to backup anything that you do not want to lose to be safe though.

I popped the disk into the computer this morning and clicked on the upgrade option, and it chugged away for a second or two and then said

You can’t upgrade this prerelease version of Windows 7. Go online to see how to install Windows 7 and keep your files and settings.

Any ideas?

I agree with Brink, its always best to full install. You get a nice clean system that way and hopefully no problems.

So put the disc in again and this time when you get to chose which drive to install on, hit options and format the partition. Make sure you back anything up you want to keep before you do anything with install.

is there any freeware or way from windows 7 to do the driver backup before a fresh installtion?

It's best to just reinstall the drivers from their installation files. I have all my device drivers saved to a USB key and on a extra partition to make it easier to do.

Yeah I wanted to upgrade 7068 x64 on main PC as I havn't finished any games, so will have to leave for now.
Funny though as I upgraded 7077 x86 on my netbook to 7100 fine, weird how it can work for one and not another.

Adrian Kingsley-Hughes on ZDNet interviewed a member of the Win7 team and reported yesterday that you can only do an upgrade from 7077.

This is because 7077 is the same build as 7100. After 7077 they keep building the 70xx line for other purposes, but 7100 is only bugchecked from then on as the intended RC.
