I thought you were about finished with the Clean All wipe? type "Exit" DISKPART, then "exit" again from Command Prompt to boot into Install, choosing Custom install Drive Options to make sure your partitions are correctly formatted, then install to first partition.

Strongly suspect RAM: either too much, bad stick or slot. So if it fails on wiped HD, try install with only 2gb of RAM, then swap RAM, try another slot. Test RAM using memtest86 for 5-6 passes, or overnight to stress test.

the clean all finished, i continued with install, formatted my 100gb partition, and created the second partition with the rest of the unallocated space, when i did that it created the 100mb partition.. so i selected the 100gb partition and clicked next. it got to expanding files about 45% and gave me the 0x80070570 error

should i remove some ram and try again?

edit I: i wanted to reboot (the wording was kind of backwards, apologize) to check the bios. for AHCI settings

edit II: there is also an update for my bios, but i dont think it will help anything..
www.asus.com said:

Fix some ODD may not be detected by Marvell controller

edit III: sorry for all the edits, my mind is a little sporadic right now - i noticed that when i boot into bios that it doesnt show any of my sata devices (optical drive or wd hard drive).. what setting would i change to put it in AHCI mode?

You may not have SATA controller settings if they are not there near where your drives are detected.

I would remove all but 2gb of RAM next to try install.

Remember to ground yourself by touching case first, feet off of carpet. Remove RAM very slowly and carefully, never force it.

i removed all but 2gb of ram, and booted to the bios

on the main tab i see this

system time
system date
language
>SATA 1 : [Not Detected]

>SATA 2 : [Not Detected]
>SATA 3 : [Not Detected]
>SATA 4 : [Not Detected]
>SATA 5 : [Not Detected]
>SATA 6 : [Not Detected]
>Storage Configuration

>System Information

if i go into storage configuration it gives me these options:

SATA configuration [Enhanced, Compatible, Disable]
Configure SATA as [IDE, RAID, AHCI]
Hard Disk Write Protect

IDE Detect Time Out (Sec)

i assume i set configure sata as to AHCI?

also, under the advanced tab -> Onboard Devices Configuration i see this:

HDA Controller [Enabled, Disabled]
Front Panel Type [HD Audio, AC97]
Realtek LAN1 [En, Dis]
Lan Boot ROM [Disabled, Enabled]
Onboard 1394 Controller [En, Dis]
J-Micron SATA/PATA Controller [Enabled, Disabled]
Marvell 9123 SATA Controller [IDE Mode, AHCI Mode, Disabled]
Marvell 9123 Boot ROM [Auto, Enabled, Disabled]
Onboard USB 3.0 Controller [En, Dis]

*whichever option is listed first in brackets is what it is currently set to, the other are options.

i can give you the rest of the bios options if you think it may help.

It appears you have no SATA devices plugged in. Are you using IDE hard drives and cd/dvd drives?

You also did not say what the SATA controller settings were, just the options.

If you have SATA devices I would try AHCI settings first, then IDE mode.

You may need the BIOS update if it solves a problem with the Marvel Controller and the DVD drive.

Try install with only 2gb of RAM, then try swapping the sticks.

i am not using IDE anything, I plugged both my hard drive and my blu ray/dvd drive into the SATA 6gb/s ports on the mobo

edit: the 6gb/s sata controller is the marvell

the wd caviar black i bought was the 6gb/s version, the optical drive doesnt need to be plugged into that correct?

Are they registering in BIOS? Your last post doesn't show they are.

What are current SATA controller settings?

the first option listed in the brackets is what the options are currently set to.. i still see not detected in my bios

how could that be? i just booted from the optical drive and was partitioning the HDD...

edit: my devices, hdd and optical drive, are not being detected in my bios.. also i noticed that just sitting in my bios the CPU temps are 52C ... that seems high?

Are your fans working? Is the dust cleaned out from the CPU? Might need to give it a break.

What happens trying install with one memory stick?

I think you may need to have your HD connected to Sata1 & DVD drive connected to Sata2 on the MB & Bios set to ACHI mode first.

everything is brand new, no dust.. fans were working.. i shut it off for now

i didnt try the install with the one stick because of the bios not recognizing my devices.. isint that something i should take care of first?

docbrown: can you elaborate? would i connect them to those ports first and then later move whichever SATA 6gb/s devices i want to the other ports? i dont need the optical drive connected to the sata 6gb/s port, just the HDD right?

I have not used any 6gb devices or MB's yet, so I am just taking a guess here for the initial install. Then if it works you can move them to the 6gb connections later. I am a very firm believer of the 2gb memory initial install ;)

i guess its worth a shot. i should get the drives recognized in the bios before installing again right?

im gonna search around on the internet, maybe asus has forums, and see if i can find anything out about my specific board and the sata ports (ive got all the cables tied back and pretty... would hate to take it all apart :()

Try plugging into SATA 1 and 2 as Doc suggests to see if they are recognized, then try install with controller set to AHCI.

Also remove all but one RAM stick.

Doc: check his settings in post #25, first one listed is current setting. He thinks Marvel controller is for current ports - is there a settings change needed there?

thats where i bought it from, newegg that is

it will take me a while to undo all the wire strips and move the sata ports and its getting late.. i have to work in the morning

will you guys be around tomorrow night when i'll have more time to work with it? i really appreciate the support.

either way ill try to get the devices recognized in the bios before trying to install the OS again.. good plan?

edit: it only has one stick of ram in it now

much appreciated.

one quick thing before i go to sleep for the night, is the 52C temp anything to be worried about? it was literally just sitting in the bios screen, i obviously don't even have an OS installed... shouldn't those temps be more like 39-40C?
