I've been using windows xp since it came out. Just got a new laptop that supports only windows 7 because of the driver issues. Anyways I am trying to uninstall the default Windows photo viewer that came with windows 7 and install the old windows photo viewer that came with winxp. I downloaded the RAWViewerSetup.exe, upon installing it tries to install the .net framework 1.1 which failed and installation is aborted. I managed to install .net framework 1.1 on C:\dotnet folder with the help of other post. But still can't complete the setup. I am aware of other photo viewer programs which im already using. just trying to set windows xp photo viewer as default picture viewer. Any advice is very much appreciated.

XP is a dead OS and it's Photo Viewer is an ancient relic as well. Might as well come fully into the present if not the future.

What is the problem with the WIn7 Photo Viewer? There is a more full-featured one available to download in Windows Live Essentials.

One good reason to install the old XP viewer is that the new viewer is just a dll opened by rundll32.exe and so it does not work with 7zip. See 7-Zip / Discussion / Open Discussion: preview pictures
I guess installing a viewer which is an independent program (not called as dll) will solve the 7zip issue.

Accidental fix as I was hunting for way to read the faxes on my old XP files. The Windows photo viewer was useless for seeing the faxes. Never could get the second page and then it would keep on showing a previous fax when i tried to look at another. I downloaded a small freeware - Free Photo Slide Show and suddenly when I clicked on a fax (not having changed anything at all), I got just what I used to get from the XP photo and fax viewer. All pages. No idea what happened but I'm fixed.
