Windows Fax and Scan cannot find modem

As reported elsewhere, I had some issues with my Win 7 installation which involved more fiddling than needed but most everything is working again. Why more than needed? In the list of possible solutions, I was given the one that fixed the big problem last. C'est la vie.

Now, I get to fiddle with fixing little problems. The latest is that Windows Fax and Scan are no longer working.

I have a modem in my computer solely for when I send faxes. With the way that they keep eliminating slots on motherboards, I don't know what I'll do when I upgrade but that's neither here nor there. Back to the story.

A couple weeks ago, I sent a fax without any issues. Today, I needed to send one and Window Fax and Scan couldn't find the modem. When I click on "Connect to a fax modem" I get "an error occured. Please try the operation later."

I opened a console and sent some AT commands to the modem and it responded. Off hook, on hook, dial. It is set as COM 3. I do have a Bluetooth dongle that is COM 6.

Before Win 7, I used WinFax Pro. I had been using WinFax for years and years and never had a problem. However, WinFax Pro doesn't work with Win 7.

One last question. When I started up WFS, it no longer shows my previously sent faxes. Where are those hidden? I say "hidden" because Microsoft seems to like to hide things that should be out in the open like your Outlook files.

Wow! A lot of people are looking at this but no one has an input. :(

More information. I removed Windows Fax and Scan using Control Panel, restarted, re-installed WFS, restarted and . . . . no change.

Argh!

I wish that I could find a half decent fax program, especially a free one. :)

Ok, here's a Sixth one ;) Also out of curiosity.
Sorry I can't bring an answer to the party.

From memory, a Fax is a .tiff image file so they may be stored in your Pictures Folder/Library.?

Looking back through your threads I notice you were having problems with activating your Ultimate SP1. Have you solved that problem? If not things will not work correctly.

It's been activated and running properly for at least a year.
