I often have problems installing updates after I shut down my computer. This morning, I shut down and I was informed not to shut down my computer as an update was being installed. There was only 1 update to install (I believe it is an update to Microsoft Word). Two hours later it is still installing. That doesn't seem right.

This has happened with other installations as well and I have been unable to power off with the power key and been forced to power off at the PSU. I did not do that today and figured I would see if the installation completed while I was at work, but I have my doubts.

Hi there, it looks fishy. Try doing a system restore to restore the computer back to a previous date and then do a windows update.

I had that problem with Vista, so far with 7, I did not. After I used the psu, I went to chkdsk (check for errors) and made the long check (checked both options), just to be sure that everything was alright.

Funny enough, I did that last night prior to installing the update. Through the first 4 steps, I was fine. I am not sure about the 5th step as I went to sleep. But my computer was on and running ok this morning (a little sluggishness, but not too bad).

I will try a system restore tonight.
