Installed "Home Use" Office 2010 on Windows 7. Now my PC Wont boot!

I just installed a home use version of Microsoft Office 2010 on my home PC. Previously this was a problem free, perfectly working installation of Windows 7. Now it appears that the office installation has killed it. Instead of booting up properly, my PC hangs at "Windows is loading files..." if I choose safe mode. Or if I tried to boot up without safe mode, it just freezes at "Starting Windows".

This is a huge problem for me since I work from home. Has anyone been able to solve this issue?

Sounds like a bad install. I would use system restore to return to a point prior to installation. I would then try the OS for a while make sure that it works properly. Then make a system restore point and try to install again.

Try to get to system restore from safe mode. If cannot be done report back and we might try another approach. Try a start up repair

Many may say, just uninstall. In the case of a bad install, I want to be sure that all is back to where you started and no remnants remain

Thanks for the ideas Rich, and especially for the quick reply in my time of need! I am a programmer, but I try not to spend my time with windows configuration issues and leave that to the experts! It seems that windows system maintenance has become an art in itself.

Unfortunately I cannot boot into windows in either safe or normal start mode. I just found my recovery CD from Dell and booted off that CD. But once again I am stuck at "Starting Windows" even when booting from the CD. I called a tech support company here in Maine, and they suggested that there can actually be a lot going on in the background during the "Starting Windows" screen, such as actually analyzing and repairing the system. But the PC has been at it for about a hour now, and I'm starting to think that's not working either.

Do I have any other options?

I had no time to take chances, and so I called in TechFrog of Bangor, Maine to help out. After trying to "repair" several times and seeing the boot process hang, guess what the solution was? Unplug the computer! Yea, I don't understand how it worked, but it did. The technician was also suspicious of the power light on my PC, which remained lit even while turned off. So he opened up the PC, looked around, checked all the connections internally, took the RAM out of the DIMMs and put them back. Then after that the PC just came up. Who would have thought? Not me, TechFrog, that's who.

Sometimes its just that simple.
