Installed Linux, now can't install windows -Asus Laptop

I have an Asus laptop 1025c.
Atom processor, 2gb ram.

It originally had windows 7 starter and i hated it so i decided to flash crunchbang linux. turns out linux isnt for me so i created a bootable usb of windows xp and when i boot to it the setup loads for a sec but then after "starting setup" it says:

No previous version of windows nt can be found on this computer. Setup cannot verify that you qualify to install this upgrade product.
To quit setup, press F3.

so i was thinking maybe since linux wrote the grub bootloader to the mbr maybe i need to rewrite it for windows xp, and i did that with hirens boot disk. Tried to load xp again and same problem. Im stumped lol, searched google cant find an answer. Any help would be appreciated thanks

You have an Upgrade copy of XP which requires the qualifying precursor OS to be installed to use it.

I suggest you do a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which may provide the performance you were missing and that a factory preinstall cheats you out of due to the bloatware and other overhead.

To unlock all versions to access Starter, download the eicfg removal tool and run it on the Home Premium 32 bit installer ISO provided in Step 1, then burn to DVD or flash stick using tool in Step 2. Follow the steps closely to make sure you get a perfect install, deleting all partitions using the Drive Options in Steps 7/8 of Clean Install Windows 7

thanks for the help, ended up figuring it out. turns out it was a bios setting. hdd needed to be set to ide instead of sata. xp doesn't support sata apparently.

xp doesn't support sata apparently.

If your Win XP CD, does not support your Sata Controller, you will need to load drivers to uses at F6.
Load Sata Controller drivers with a floppy disk is the best way.
