I downloaded and installed IE9 from windows update . After that I couldn't open hard drives C: and D: by double clicking but I could by right click and Open . Seaching the problem in Googgle the most topics refer that there is a virus which creates an autorun.inf file etc. They suggest the following , c:\attrib -s - h -r autorun.inf and Del autorun.inf and some changes in Registry . I applied everything related to these topics but the problem insisted . Finally I used the restore point created by IE9 and returned successfuly to IE8 and the problem disappeared . I tried to install four times IE9 in a period of 15 days but the result was absolutely the same .
The fake message when double clicked is : to open the drive ( or folder ) you need a program associated with it or something like that .
The safe conclusion is that the virus is installed in Registry since applying the restore point the problem is solved.

I think thats just the file associations messed up. Theres a tut that tells you how to restore default file associations.

The bottom line: Internet Explorer 9 is surprisingly competitive across the board. Zippy browsing speeds, minimalist layout, and innovative features make this not only the best version of IE to date, but will catapult Internet Explorer back into the browser wars. The one big drawback? You must have Windows 7 or Vista to use it. XP users are stuck on IE8. Foreve

Just Download it from: Internet Explorer - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

PS.Rather uninstall IE9 in safemode first,restart,download & install.

Hope it helps,& welcome to the Forums..;)
