Installing/making IWheelWorks operate on Windows 7 64bit?

Hi All!

First post, and it's an act of desperation. I recently upgraded my OS from Windows 7 Home Premium to the same version 64 bit (to take advantage of the 8GB of RAM I have in the machine). I use and love a dual scroll wheel mouse (2 wheels + 5 buttons).

With my old 32 bit system, I installed a mouse driver from A4Tech called IWheelWorks 7.80. This driver gives the ability to create/use a "mouse menu" by clicking the main wheel button on the mouse. When you click the main wheel on the mouse, a menu pops up that lists all the websites you put into the menu, and with a left click on any one, it takes you there. I've been using it for several years, and found to a great tool.

My problem is that I tried to install it when I upgraded my system to 64 bit, and I cannot get it to work (the zip file contains x32/x64 files)....after a number of tries with the installer in different compatibility modes, it installed for XP service pack 3, but the mouse/cursor froze right after the restart. I had to remove it and relocate the mouse to another USB connection to get it to work again. I've worked with it for the past two days, and just don't know what else to do. Can anyone offer advice or insight on how to get this driver to properly work in Windows 7 Home Premium x64? OR, is there some other driver/program out there that can offer the same functionality?

Any help in solving this issue would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, EdCaffreyMS. Welcome to Seven Forums.

In checking the system requirements for IWheelWorks 7.80, it appears that it has not been updated for Windows 7. Although it worked for your Windows 7 32-bit installation, that is most likely because the driver was compatible with Windows Vista, 32-bit.

Although you could try the driver for PC available from the above link and Compatibility Mode, you may be out of luck with this particular program.

After all the effort I've put into trying to make it work...you may be right. I put an email into A4tech support, but it doesn't seem like they respond very quickly...if at all. I might give it one more shot in XP SP2 compatibility mode, and if that won't work, might just have to find something else.

Now that I'm without that software, I find that browsing/using the web is a lot more cumbersome and less appealing. If anyone knows of a mouse and/or software that offers the same functionality that IWheelWorks did, I'd sure appreciate knowing about it!

Sorry that I couldn't be more help, EdCaffreyMS. Personally, I have the sites I spend most of my time at open in tabs when I launch the browser (both Firefox and IE9).
